"Sales" On The High Street?

Has anyone left their house to go to any "sales"?

Now I haven't been to a major city, however the past couple of days have been in major high street stores and not really seen any bargains.

HMV, cheaper online....Zavvi in administration and no less on prices than before xmas, WHSmiths....same prices as online or more expensive...Supermarket deals not that impressive, Tesco clothing "upto 70% off" yet most only 1/3rd saving, George clothing in Asda "upto 50% off" but only on certain clothing, very limited.

Comet, Currys etc etc....cheaper prices to be had online. Wholesalers Makro....overpriced as always.

The only real bargain I have had is a nice wool rug half price in Dunelms sale.

So what is everyone elses opinion of sales on the High St? Has online deals what I am used to expect from being a regular member of HUKD tainted my judgement, or are the days of High St shopping numbered with the influx of being able to buy cheaper online? What is the future for our High St stores if they cannot even in a sale match the prices of their own web operations?

Thoughts and opinions everyone?

soon there will be no shops of any kind.
thousands of people will be out of work and on benefits which means taxes will go back up. theres already millions on the dole and not able to find jobs.
which also means internet business will suffer as people on benefits will not be able to afford to buy the items from online stores.

everyone says shopping online is cheaper, it is but once all the shops are gone the online stores will charge what they can get away with.
the shops are already trying to cut prices and are selling in sometimes negative margin to compete with online retailers, but shops have more overheads.

so give it a few years and everyone currently working in a retail environment will be out of work and all the high streets will be empty.

Broken Britain.

Really makes me wonder what the future holds for the High St to be honest, why bother when even at sale prices they cannot match online.

Or it will create a "niche" market on the High St instead, whereby it will encourage small businesses to set up specialising in certain goods, perhaps a return to small business shops that will give towns "character"?

Who knows good or bad?!

Popped into Croydon today. House Of Fraser wasn't that packed and no bargains as such to be found. All the good stuff are never on sale! As was Office, Topshop and Oasis. Got bored and left everyone to their rummaging. I haven't got the heart to be going through mountains of 'stuff' in hope of finding something I may want.

I know what I need and that is a washing machine and tbh there is more chance of me buying it via HDUK than on the high street. I love the internet and go not see why I should have to traipse about in the cold.

its gonna depend on cornering the market, business loans and rent prices on property.

went to M&S and next with mum at 6 this morning :( she needed company and my dad wasn't feeling well so i went, mum got some stuff from M&S quite cheap, but when we got to next it was absolutely ridiculous! Queue to get into the store and queues around it! So i dragged her ( not literally) to john lewis for when it open :)
