Hi should be getting this phone in the next few days hopefully.

Haven't used an adroid phone as of yet , so was wondering what apps would you recommend and any hacks or other sorts i should get for the phone.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'd probably recommend getting some boxing gloves! This phone is sooooo good, you might not be able to contain yourself! :p

No need for any hacks. Its not made by apple! Just install app brain and off you go.

If you have downloaded an app, you can use it.

Most of my apps are freebies tbh.....and my faves may not be your cup of tea, but here goes.......

xbmc (purely because I have a media server and 6 pcs in the house I'm able to control with it.)
allshare (pre installed)... can access my server and stream HD. It can also turn the phone into a server.
live wallpapers (any.. they are all cool!)
google goggles
asphalt 5 pre installed racing game
flixter
convert pad (conversion app which covers loads of stuff)
barcode scanner (useful for searching bargains elsewhere while instore!!)
sky remote
album art grabber (just plonk on your mp3s and this will search for art without crap itunes nonsense.)
easy locator (find out where your partner or kids are in real time (if they have their phone with them!)

Samsung Galaxy S is actually an amazingly brilliant phone, especially for the price I'm paying for! (£18 a month for 18months plus free phone)

I originally wanted the iPhone 4 but the contracts were crazy expensive, so I went for the second best (in my eyes) and oh my gosh, what a phone!

500 minutes, unlimited texts, 3GB internet! :O

Haha, I went to the cancelation department a few days before my contract was due to expire and they offered me that ^ after I told them that the vodafone deals where better :D

Why would you take the Galaxy S over the desire?
(Serious question, my contract is up in like 4 weeks :P)

Galaxy S is a FAAAAAR more superior phone. Honestly, just go into a store and hold both handsets and play with them for a few minutes. you'll be decided in seconds - I was.

Ive held them both and the samsung feels a bit cheap, and they dont have the best track record of updating handsets... but it has the slightly better specs, at the moment im torn between the two!

the samsung has a better graphics chip and has TV out, and has a superior screen.
on the downside, it has touchwiz interface vs the beautiful htc sense on the desire.

there are probably more differences but i'd go for the samsung.

I'm surprised you'd say that. The Samsung just oozed class IMHO before even turning it on..... and then doing so the decision was a doddle. BTW, the specs are more than "slightly" better if graphics is your thing. Plus mine is the 16GB version (only Voda has that) and with the 16GB SD inside (and expanddable with 32GB SD if I wanted) So basically it has loads of room for Apps without Waiting for Frodo.... which is due at the end of the month.

I just felt it was a bit plasticy :S
the interface isnt much of an issue as i would be replacing it with Launcher Pro anyway.
Its the support that worries me the most to be honestand ive heard some dodgy things about reliablility..

Thats why I wouldnt go near samsung, no doubt they will stop support and updates for the phone when they bring out a new handset, they always do, its pretty much a sure thing that the HTC desire will be getting gingerbread, and possibly further updates after that, either through HTC direct or from the massive community of hackers and developers behind it, the galaxy s is already way behind when it comes to software, just ask yourself why it wasnt released with 2.2 and why a major camera manufacturer would release a smartphone without a flash X)

IMO the desire is the way to go, with its support from htc and all the various communities its pretty much going to be uptodate for atleast the next couple of years
