Samsung Galaxy s2 - Wifi not working after ICS update. Please Help!

Since upgrading my Samsung Galaxy to ICS the wifi does not connect to my home wifi. It was working fine on Gingerbread.
When the wifi is on it shows the home network strength and even says its connected but when you try to load a web page nothing happens?!

Last week what happened was when I went to work the wifi worked properly using their network. I came home and wifi was working at home. I did not switch off my mobile or install any apps but the following day the wifi would not work!??

The wifi router is working fine as laptop and PC are connected so no problem with that.

Have restarted the mobile, forgotten the wifi connection & added it again, took out battery & restarted but no luck.

Also the GPS is messed up as well

Is any else having the same problems since the ICS update and do you have any solutions?

Yes! Plug in your mobile into Kies and it should tell you that a update is available. I would avoid doing the update for the problems mentioned above until they fix it!

restore to manufactures settings

restore to manufactures settings

I have read that but will have to install apps again? Also have read a few posts online with people who have the same problem and it seems to be a short term fix until it gets messed up a gain.
Any other solution?

Factory reset from Recovery, been running it for a few weeks and not a single problem at all, runs great.

Do you have any problems with the GPS?

I said not a single problem, so that means no problems.

Just flash it to the proper UK one instead of that orange crap.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a go

Back to square one! Just got home & tried to connect to wifi but the problem has started again!!!
Also my signal is a lot worse then before & now I hardly get a 3G internet connection! Please can someone help?
Not sure if connecting to my wotk wifi messes things up? It was fine with gingerbread though

Have you factory resetted after changing to the Generic UK one? It does sound like a problem a setting or app you are using is doing though.

I did the Wipe Data/Factory Reset from the Recovery Mode. Was I supposed to do a factory reset as well? Can I do this now or would I need to do a reinstall and then factory reset?
Thanks

Factory Reset from recovery mode is fine. You can do it again now if you want just to try if it works.

Ok, I'll try it again from the phone. I am thinking there might be a conflict after connecting to the work wifi & then coming home to connect to the home network?

Well if it's working after a factory reset it's obviously something your doing, don't connect to the work wifi for a few days and see if it happens.

I did not connect to the work wifi at all today.

Ive upgraded it just now, and my texting has gone weird....everytime I press the single key "u" it crashes and I cant type any more for like a minute, then it clears up....I have to write the full "you"....every other word/letter is fine.....how messed up is that??!
#22

okay i done exactly the same with my Sony Xperia S, wi fi stopped working. DO NOT DO A FACTORY RESET, i did and ended up losing all apps with the issue still remaining. What you need to do is set a static IP get the primary and secondary address from your router settings (check router manual) and give yourself an address this allowed me access to my wi fi with no issues whatsoever.

(NOT SURE IF YOU STILL HAVE THE ISSUE BUT POSTING COMMENT TO HELP OTHERS)

I had these problems.. Wouldn't connect to wifi suddenly when other devices could. Tried what seems everything except factory reset. Resetting my router worked for me.
#25
well the wifi works intermittently...i did a hard reset of the phone, the problem came back after a while - not sure if it's an app? or the ICS 4.0.3, some people say that 4.0.4 fixes this issue but it's yet to be released by networks in the UK

Just go to Application Manager and
1. Clear Data
2. Clear cache
Then try again. It will work
#27
I did a clear cache before and nothing, same problem...

I have now got 4.0.4 (UK Orange) and it appears to have cleared up *touch wood*

My phone has done the exact same thing, I'm sending mine back to Orange as there seems to be no way to fix it yourself. Apparently it is due to a hardware fault that requires the motherboard to be replaced. I have heard from somebody else with a similar problem to mine that often the phone is unfixable due to apparent acid leakage inside the phone causing the problem, so your phone company should then replace the phone if it is under warranty. I am sort of hoping that they will just replace the phone at which point I will argue for an upgraded replacement, something which I have become accustomed to doing after having a horrific time with the dreaded Nokia N97 phones they brought out a few years back. I would recommend sending your phone off for repair providing it is under warranty and you haven't voided it in any way, this is what I'm going to do tomorrow after I have torn somebody from the Orange call center a new A hole.

try and update your software - like I said, if you have 4.0.4 then it might clear up, I've not had this specific wifi issue since
#30
i also have the same prob ma wifi not working when am turning on it says wifi error n i fomat ma cell also but still same prob don't know what to do :/

me too facing the same problem...so wot should i do?

I changed my router and that seemed to have done the trick. Not sure why it did not like my old router as the Nokia and iPhones connected fine?
#32
Did you ever fix the problem? And did the satnav come back ok?

I think the GPS on the s2 is lame so maybe it had nothing to do with the software. I now have a HTC One X & it picked up the GPS very quick.

In regards to the WiFi, i tried various mobiles on android & the all experienced same problem with WiFi connection. It's only when I changed the router then the connected everytime. However the Nokia and iPhones never had a problem with the router or when the s2 was on gingerbread
