Not the best place to ask, I know, but i'm gonna need a new phone and im stuck on which one to choose. On the one hand, we have 5800:
a) £150
b) Best with music
c) Fair bit of apps
Then the Jet:
a) £200
b) Great screen and better touchscreen/better features than 5800
c) Poorer quality of apps and poor OS

Need some more opinions please!
Preferably from people who used both phones

of course feel free to add any other phones but price bracket is £200 or less

Based on your info, gotta be the 5800. I have the N97 and the TS is excellent on that, so should be same for the 5800.

Is the jet actually worth £200? I was going to sell mine.
#4
hmm im thinking of selling a 5800 too

5800 user, plasticy, creaks a bit when in use, loose stylus Valhalla, the music player is rather underwhelming. I find the menu system annoyingly slow, and don't get me started on the screen flip, frustrating.

Good for texting, iplayer is fab, great speakers. Gps and maps is good, but slow.

thanks for the advice guys - keep em comin
The prices mentioned are for brand new ones btw.

mine is brand new upgrade hehe

The jet hasnt got a horrible os, i think it works really well, such a joy to use over symbian.

you think so?
Ive heard that even with a processor that is faster than the iphone 3gs, it can get a bit laggy moving about in the main screen, signalling poor coding.
Of course it can be ironed out in firmware upgrades, but so far I have heard no news.

Also forgot to say. My main "likes" of a phone would be:
1) responsive (this then excludes the tocco lite and cookie and I usually compare it to the nokia 6230) and very minimal lag between inputs (say in texts) and apps (impatient fingers need fast phones)
2) Call quality (inc signal strength based on hardware)
3) 3.5 jack and a good music player
Not really interested in but a good bonus:
1) camera
2) GPS (a v.good bonus)

In a way you could say that is the reason why I shortened it to the two mentioned :D

Texting is so much easier on the jet, the screen is just so much more responsive, the lag they talk about is the visual effects maybe? as when you press something the page fades/comes in from the side etc, you can turn that off, but I think it looks cool.

I just got my 5800 last week and love it.

I bought it from Prepaymania through their eBay shop for £149.99 and it came very quickly and also had an 8gb memory card - I am not sure if they all come with that.

I havent had any experience with new Samsungs but I have always preferred Nokia's for their user friendlyness and lack of software lagging (my LG Viewty was a nightmare)

Hey you know what im on about!!
It could use some extra frames here and there to smoothen the animations (especially when you move the background theme from one side to the other to change it) and if they do that, im sold.
As for the extra apps (or widgets as samsung wants to call it), i guess im a newbie as I never used a Samsung phone, so cant comment much

I know precisely what you mean about the Viewty. For me, its impossible to use for more than 5 minutes without getting annoyed :-D

the only thing I don't quite like about the 5800 is the plasticky feel. Apart from that, its probably another sold phone haha

Not many extra widgets, but they are such a gimmick, I havnt got one widget on my homescreen, I like a nice clean wallpaper!

Everyone has a 5800, go for the jet!

I havnt got a jet btw, im using the pixon12, same user interface and processor exactly, but the pixon12 doesnt have the entertainment cube which looks kinda cool.

hehe, none of my friends (or their friends) have the 5800 yet which is why i consider it an option.
The entertainment cube to me is a gimmick unfortunately - I personally prefer to get from point a to b asap D:
Also, just forgot im in a fs/ft deal, so if things get lucky, ill get a new 5800 for £140 :D

I've looked at both and much prefer the Samsung. The N5800 seems very poor quality.

If you are still going to have to get it unlocked, then consider paying £10 more for a brand new one so you get a receipt :)
