I was going to go on to pay as you go after my current ended, I rung orange to see my options and they offered me.

San Fransisco with 200mins unlimited texts and 500mb data for

18 months = £15

24 months = £10

I was going to get the handset for £80 and trans fare to 30 day role on contract which is £11 200mins 100 txts 500mb data.

Is what they have offered a good deal compared to what they have offered to others?

Rather get tied down, I would have gone for a 1 month contract and buy the PAYG handset.

You could have gone for this tariff on Tesco: £ 10.00 250 mins 500 MB 5000 texts

The orange SIM only deal they offered is terrible if you use a lot of texts. 100 is nothing, especially if you're like me and use up 2 or 3 at a time, cos u dnt spk lke dis

My way (buy PAYG phone + Tesco 1 month contract): Cost over 18 months = (18*10)+80 = £260
The 18 month deal you listed works out at £270. Not a lot in it, but with Tesco you're not tied down, you get more texts, and you don't have to deal with Orange and their shoddy customer service

Which network do Tesco piggy back onto?

Tesco use O2

GiffGaff is another option. They use O2 as well

If you know you'll stay for 18 months and you don't text war and peace I'd consider orange as you'll get all the orange weds stuff, it's less hassle and people won't think you cheap when they don't hear "welcome to the tesco mobile voicemail service for..." think of all the women and potential employers that will put off...

Custom voicemail message? It's been possible for as long as I can remember!

lol you have been converted. Welcome future fellow san fransisco holder.

Btw GiffGaff for the win.
#8
you'd also get cashback from topcashback/quidco with oldmanhouse's suggestion.

When I used to own a SF, I was on giffgaff and found their internet terrible. Even though I'm on a contract with O2 now and a Galaxy S, and giffgaff use O2, the speed is so much faster.

Not sure if giffgaff's speed on O2 is limited.

I'm on GG and internet is very fast now. It was slow for a few weeks when the free internet offer has finished some time ago but now it's fine. Best network if you want Pay & Go.
