My wife is 39 weeks pregnant and her waters broke this morning, been to the hospital and they said to go back on Wed to be induced.

It's gonna be a long few days...........

UPDATE

Well that was a crazy day or so.

Contractions were pretty strong last night at 11 ish, went to the hospital, they told us to go home as she was miles away.

Went home, contractions got crazy strong, rang the hospital at about 5 this morning, they said "you can come back in but it most likely won't have changed"

Went back in and it turns out she was fully dialated, 2 hours later and we have a beautiful daughter!!!!!

All without any pain relief, my wife is hardcore!!

I am shattered.......

I hate that they can send you home after your waters break, did they give your wife antibiotics? I'm sure that if your waters break so long before your induced you need to be on them???
[mod]#3
Exciting times. Best of luck.
#4
if her waters have broken the chances are you will be back in the hospital today or tomorrow
congrats & good luck :)

is this ur first baby?
my labours always start with my waters breaking then i go into labour a few hours later
#6
They swabbed to make sure there was no infection, I think that's why we're going back on Wed, if there's no waters then he/she has to come out after 48 hours or so.

Annoying to be sent home though, we live about 40 mins away!!

Yeah its all about the risk of infection etc.

A girl who was in the bed opposite me whilst I was in having my last baby, her waters had broke 2 days before, she was sent home and told to come back because they couldn't fit her in, she ended up on antibiotics.

I hope you can drive like Lewis Hamilton.

i think the waters breaking help the contractions start, the waters start to dilate the cervix or something like that so she may go in b4 weds
good luck x

Yeah, hence we know very little, have stayed away from reading things online throughout the whole pregnancy and have just read one book, unfortunately it's very vague about waters breaking :)

She's not having any contractions at the moment and we're all ready with everything in case they come on strong
#16
well im sure something in the waters can help start the contractions of and the waters replenish themselves so she will prob carry on leaking, hopefully u will be back in tonight
does she have any aches,pains?

There appear to be different schools of thought on that. I know in our area - we were told that my wife would be induced within 24 hours of her waters breaking if she didn't deliver. It's not the same everywhere - which is weird.
#26
Still nothing happening, a few contractions that seem regular, but then they go
#27
Good luck, hopefully shouldn't be too long.

Am surprised they didn't keep her in and think about starting her off sooner than Wednesday specially cos only a wk left.

It's obviously different every health care trust / hospital.

Not to scare you, just saying when my waters broke i gave birth 49 mins later (that was the full lenght of labour) and then last time was 10 mins (labour lasted 1 hour)

2 mins here and she was out,but snipped with scissors by midwife, had to stop pushing while she did it,don't think it happen to OP partner being her 1st,but who knows.
She should been stood in M&S or somewhere,I hear you get a baby hamper in there if your waters break, and Tesco, rumour is you get nappy supplies.

Ooooo congratulations...I popped at 39 weeks last time, but my waters didn't break by themselves.

This thread has just made me realise how long I long I have left to go.... :(
