Be prepared to be there a while!
I went through all the answers I could have possibly given for my secret question when I called yday, but nope, I kept getting it wrong.. Finally she agreed to ask me other questions on my account instead. She then allowed me to change my answer to the secret question.. when she told me what the original answer was, it ever so slightly sounded like what I said (a place name) but it wasn't right at all! The person on the other end obv misheard me and wrote down something I wouldnt have gotten right in a million years!

Never had an issue with halifax, I never remember my password but they're ok with the basic security questions.

How dare a bank adhere to DPA and have security concerning accounts. How very dare they!

you're missing the point

yes people want security but they want security that works in their favor and works as it should, not security that locks you out of your own account due to either a mistake when they set the security up or due to a pleb on the other end of the phone who can't understand basic english

:{ Just closed my account at the haifax...as from the end of this month they are getting rid of passbooks and replacing them with cheque books, so took all my cash out and closed down the account

Doubtful as they're not even Halifax security questions, you probably failed before and never reset it.

Cheque books to replace passbooks? Weird that when cheques are being phased out too.

Anybody got a good thing to say about any banks? lol

yes, smile & co-op have always been excellent in over 10 years of being a customer.

Nationwide BS are also superb

I had a problem when I setup an account with the co-op. Asked me for loads of details and one was a memorable date. Erm....I just said 1973, lol. Anyway a week or so later when I went to login to online banking it asked me for my memorable date, as in day, month year. WTF? Mine is just 1973.

So I phoned them up and she asked me what it was, i said 1973, she said no it has to be a full date with day and month. I said well I just said 1973. She told me it was not what she had down on her file, she asked me if I had any date linked with 1973. I said yes my birthday but it is not that because I know I just put 1973 when the bloke asked me.

She asked me what my birthday was so I told her, she said nope it's not that. I said woopy doo, very clever, I already knew that. But I have no idea what date you have got down because I only replied 1973 when I was asked for a date.

She was adamant that I had given a date and she needed that from me, lol. What a carry on, the purpose of my phone call was because it's worng I need to get it sorted. About an hour later she decided that my correct answer to every other question was enough to prove it was my account and she changed the date for me.

Talk about thick a pig poo. How on earth this first bloke got a day, month and year for my memorable date in the first place when I just gave him 1973 was simply incredible.

I don't think I've talked to Santander / A&L before them when they haven't annoyed me. Twice I've been told that A&L give good rates but have bad customer service and that I should have known this and accept this if I want an account with them!

Come to think of it, why am I still with them?

Other than smile, recommendations anyone? First Direct seem to get good reviews?
