hmmm I was thinking of the Tom Tom ones.

My Garmin Nuvi is pretty simple and works well.

Yes TomTom One very simple to use, easily update-able unlike some of the cheaper alternatives, Even though you can usually put TomTom on them anyway but in my experience they tend to prove unreliable and more agro than their worth.

I've had quite a few and always end up back with a TomTom, now I've got a TomTom 520 and keep it upto date, and haven't bothered getting any others.

Don't bother with anything other than a Tomtom, just decide which Tomtom is best for you.
#6
Dont get a TomTom start they are not very good , all the others are ok

Yes Garmin are also a good alternative to TomTom nearly as update-able.

However imo TomTom have the edge.

Or you just upgrade your Start to a Go and get all the normal options back :)

Problem with that is because their low end the processors are very slow and dont have as much ram so enabling the extra features causes them to be virtually useless and laggy as hell.

Sorry to be blunt but thats absolute ****.

I mess around with pretty much every Tomtom there is (apart from the 1000... nice)... if you do it properly, and don't aim too high (ALG and Loquendo TTS are heavy on resources), the Start will run absolutely fine as a low-end one unit. This is from direct personal experience, rather than just "what my mates mates mate said" guesswork.

Oh and my x40 live is a x50 currently with navcore9 - but thats freely available from tomtom now.

Can you upgrade the Start ?

Or do you mean buy a new unit ?

Exactly my point Doh, They struggle as standard.

But yes some options won't really affect performance too much.

Not really... you said a Start won't function as a One, or would struggle. That was your point, or at least how you came across. The standard One unit doesn't come with TTS, or rather, it didn't last time I checked.

Get an AA Road Atlas, a couple of quid, who needs to be told where to go?(_;)

I have both GArmin & Tom Tom (cheaper to buy a Tom Tom in N America than either hire one or upgrade Garmin with N Americian maps (cheaper now though). I digress!!!
The easiest one to use is the ....... GARMIN and big time. The Tom Tom battery is useless and I remember forums all complaining about the battery life. Its down to none now on mine but the Garmin is as good as ever.
If I were to buy a new one it would be the Garmin

Yes you can - ignore Shauneco and his desperate attempts to backtrack. Watch out for the sound issue (you need to apply a fix to some tomtom starts as they go silent!)

But the basic answer is: yes. google: ipmart tomtom

OOps, sorry I havent been on for a while and you have probably bought but it the Garmin Nuvi 310 with traffic alert. It is obviously an older model but if the newer ones have the same interface, easiest to use.
