easier to work a few extra hours than cut stuff out, except maybe eating out, takeaways are easy to stop
also cut down any extra tv package you pay for or magazines you buy, all that is easy and painless

give up smoking? nights out, no dvd rentals or movies

basically, if you cut out the above (supposing you were doing such) you can save a lot
can also save by taking food to work and not buying coffee's etc

cut down on booze and women, they cost me easily 150 a month

we have booked a massive holiday for next year - June 2011

Fly to LA and stay in Hollywood for 3 nights
then cruise on the Carnival Splendor in a suite (whoooopeee) for 7 nights down to Mexico
then fly to Las Vegas and stay for 3 nights there before flying home...........have booked 5* hotels as well in LA and Vegas. Its going to cost us a fortune - but a one off.

So because the holiday is so far away, we have started sticking money in a jar every week - then every month sticking into our "Holiday bank account". Neither of us smoke and only drink on a Friday so not really much scope there to cut down - but we are just going to stop buying so much rubbish and save, save, save!!!!

Did you!!!!! we looked at LOADS of cruises but the Carnival ones definitely came out best! I am bit worried as discovered that the suite we have is normally for wheelchair users :? so going to call them up tomorrow to get it changed - the only difference is that the stateroom is much bigger and probably handles in the loo, which would be great for when am steaming drunk, but dont want to stop someone booking who genuinely needs that room.

Where did u cruise to?

OP do you work...if you do, do you buy food at the work canteen/eat out every day?

3 or 4 quid a day = £20 quid a week

£80 quid a month

roughly £1000 a year on food, how much cheaper would it be to bring sandwiches/fruit?

If you dont eat out at work etc then I just wasted time typing this haha :p
#12
To save: Start walking or cycling instead of driving, less booze and takeaways, only go on the misc side of this forum - will save you a fortune lol, cut flowers from the garden instead of buying them, swap to cheaper shampoo and conditioner, reduce your mobile tariff, make a packed lunch for you and OH.

Things I won't save on: top quality tomatoes, decent meat, decent insurance, nice orange juice.

Or if you like them, a cuppa soup, they are cheap, quick, not very messy and easy to eat.

can i come too please :)

yups that's me too, save save save!! i've been squirreling money away like a good un lately!
#20
do you use quidco OP? if you use it when you do big purchases like insurance, phones etc, that little bit extra comes in handy for things like holidays :) i've been paid just over £200 in quidco cashback this year!
#21
well if you goin for a month (if you can afford to )switch everything off, (eleccy ) any food in fridge eat before you go dont buy anything a week before and just eat whats left, downgrade all subcriptions/insurances( apart from house content insurance i suppose lol) for that month to lowest fees, or totally cut off if possible, have a trusted lodger stay at your house get them to pay some rent, that should save you money in a different way

lol, I'm like that, I go through phases and by the time I have a nicely stocked cupboard full of the flavours I like I get fed up and want a change. Currently it's pork pie phase so nice and easy, but I feel change a-comin' maybe panninis :-D It's easy to buy chiabattas from Tesco and before you freeze them you cut them in half so easy to toast and warm up from frozen.

If you don't mind having the same thing for lunch at work, I make a massive macaroni cheese, or whatever, on a Sunday, then cut it up into portions and freeze them so I can take one everyday without having to faf about making a sandwich every morning (bit lazy in the morning). Then if I can just grab something and go I am less inclined to take nothing and then end up having to buy something.

Also, I have found that planning a week's meals in advance means we won't just go to the supermarket and buy whatever we fancy which always ends up costing more, especially if you're hungry! Can do one biggish shop once a week and stick to a budget.

I didn't know you pay for your women.

We all pay for them one way or another  I tell you been with mine for 7 years and it gets more exspensive every year. Would be cheaper living on my own:thinking: would also get more time in the bedroom and not just for sleeping:whistling: . Need to be more careful what i say on here she's on here more than me, but she still hasn't worked out how to use HUKD yet:w00t:

I would just do as i do to be honest. I feel hard done by if i don't go abroad at least 10 times per year but always ensure i get the best price on flights, hotels car hire etc by using sites such as quidco, travelsupermarket etc etc :)
#28
I sold one of my kids so I could afford a nice holiday for my 25th wedding anniversary.

Broke my heart to see her go, but the holiday more than made up for it:thumbsup:

We had a suite and the VIP check in (no queing was great!), we did a Miami Eastern Caribbean Cruise, loved it - we also tied it in with a trip to Vegas/Miami, but the cruise part was our best holiday ever.

If you've booked online and used Early Saver keep a eye out for their price drops or free upgrades and they will give you it in on board credit - check out cruisecritic.co.uk for more cruise info.

We got engaged on the cruise and am looking at doing one as part of our honeymoon!

Never really understood the concept of going months without for two weeks holiday. It just doesn't add up to me.

If you're having to cut back to go on holiday then you couldn't afford it in the first place.

Yeah we booked using the Early Saver discount and its through Thomas Cook. Someone else said that to my husband about the price dropping u will get onboard credit. WIll need to look into it!

Cruisecritic.co.uk has been a brilliant source of info.

On the Las Vegas part of our trip we are staying at the Bellagio - saw it years ago on a documentary and always said that if we ever went there, then thats the hotel I am staying it. :)

I would never go without just for the sake of a holiday - but when your saving for something, I think thats when you realise how much rubbish you buy normally! I am a shopoholic and always spend about £50 a month on Yankee Candles  as love them all over my house - so silly things like that are stopping (or so my OH thinks !) - na, no more buying rubbish! Thinking about it - I probably spend the same again every month on books n magazines, so there's another saving!
