Often companies have other numbers than 0870s that will enable you to reach the same route. The website SayNoTo0870.com has a searchable alternative number' database to help you work around the charges.
Most big companies have a range of numbers. 0870s are commonly for complaints and enquiries, while sales lines are cheaper or even free (ie putting complaints off and encouraging sales). So dial the sales number and ask to be put through to the relevant department.

That site has saved us a lot of £ in phone calls.

Some of the numbers take you to the exact same automated menu, while others you have to be asked to be transferred - but either way all the numbers I have tried have worked

This has been posted before many times - HOWEVER - DO NOT CLICK EXPIRE - there are still lots who don't know about it and its a good reminder for those who do! Great site and always the first thing I do before I call a non-geographic or 0800 number, saves a fortune in money on calls and time as you of often bypass the automated systems which keep you waiting!!!!

MOst of the time the companies ask u to redial and use the "proper" numbers i.e the 0871 etc

This is a great site, been using it for years now. Its good for finding alternatives to 0800 number too, so you can use your inclusive minutes and don't get charged from a mobile.

I've never had the problem

Also, when you get to an automated menu, dont press any number on the keypad, just wait (You dont have a touchtone phone). This will get you put through to customer services straight away, saves a lot of time waiting. If its not the right department they can transfer you over

great site and a good post.

a point worth making though to new and established users of "Say No.." is dont be lazy.!!!!
...if you find a geographical number for you local PC World or Tescos etc....submit via the site to help expand the data-base and help out the rest of others.
