First post!! I hope you find this helpful, I have been getting fed up being on hold or working my way through endless menu's on the phone to get help or advice from companies when I am paying for the call. A friend told me about this site and it is quite useful.

This website has a search feature to give alternative phone numbers to those starting 0870....

The site lists many well known companies, and their equivalent geographical numbers.

Alternatives listed for 0800, 0808, 0844, 0845, 0870 and 0871 numbers.

The SAYNOTO0870.COM web site has been featured on BBC's Working Lunch TV programme, BBC Radio 2 (Jeremy Vine Show), BBC Radio Norfolk, and also appeared in many newspapers & publications, including The Guardian, Which Magazine, Readers Digest, and many more

good site, just add it to your favourites always comes in handy. been using it for about 18 months now. keep updated by users but some companys will not pick up as they know its a landline number being used cos the money grabbing sods want you to use the 0870 number:x

Whether this was posted before or not, it's still useful. I never saw it before and didn't even know such a thing existed so I couldn't have searched for it. Remember this site gets newbies every day so sometimes a little duplication is ok

Yeah, it gets posted at least once a month but it's such a useful resource that it's a good thing!! :)

Good post Leila70. I get a bit sick and tired of the "Previously Posted Police" (and I'm not talking about mods here) stalking the boards and telling people off for posting something that was mentioned a long time ago and has long since been buried by thousands of other deals and tips and information.
(No, engadine, I'm not picking an argument with you :)).

Sorry, duckmagic, your post wasn't there when I started mine! I said what I said from personal experience and it is nothing to do with mods. Mods delete or move a post which is fair enough.

Actually the people saying it hasnt been posted before arent telling people off just saying it has been on this site before so a lot of people know about it

Ex-directory your number or call from Skype and they don't know where you're calling from, good one with Sky is you call their India division and they happily forward your call to the right department in the UK :-D

You can also dial 141 before you dial the landline number - this hides your number.

Useful yes but you should also mention companies like 1899.com that can be used with the geographical numbers. If you don`t get free calls from your telephone provider these can be used to connect to the company or individual by only paying a connection fee (5p with 1899.com) for as long as the call takes.
