Thought I'd share a favourite site of mine...

http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php CLICK HERE

You can find so many alternative numbers to 0870 - often you'll find a freephone number for a company too!

"Many people don't realise that there are many phone providers offering cheaper calls to standard telephone numbers (those beginning with 01 or 02), which don't apply to 0845, 0870 or 0871 telephone numbers."

I've used this site a hundred times - for one thing, my credit card companies all gave me their 0870 numbers but they do have an 01 (etc) listing too and some have freephone numbers (grrr)... so now I call them as often as I want without worrying about the bill :)

Two fingers to companies using 0870!!!

:D That's GREAT!!! Thanks a lot :D

Up to now, I've just refused to call if an 0870 number after making that mistake once trying to find my Viking order at DHL - cost me about £2.50!! DHL's tracking system was useless too so I gave up

AH HA!!! DHL have a normal number - could have used that, but at least I know now :D

At the top of my favourites now, Many Thanks :D

Dont forget that you can earn money back by handing out you own 0870/0871 number... they are free but by getting people/companies ringing the 0871 number gives you an earner, for example: they pay 5p a min into your pocket... :D
#5
Quality site, wish I'd know about this earlier as I wouldnt have wasted as much ringing up the useless Planetmicro.
#6
Mods, any chance of making this thread a sticky as you dont know when you will need it and it would be great reference having it always available

how do you do this?
It would be great to tell the Telesales people 'sorry I am busy now, can you ring me back on 0870..... in 5 minutes'. They wouldn't ring back but if they did you could happily speak to them at length :)

Here you go, now you can get your own back on them...

You can also choose an 0845 or a 0870 number too...

The 0871 gives the best cash return to you...

no probs bobajob! should please missus bobajob too!

just found some info on typical 0870 etc costs per minute, folks - see what u'll save by searching for an alternative geographical number instead:

Customer Call Cost on BT

PeakOff PeakWeekend
0800 Free Free Free
0845 3.95p 1p 1p
0844 5p 5p 5p
0870 7.91p 3.95p 1.5p
0871 10p 10p 10p

ouch! i always though 0871 cost the same as 0870!!

hope it helps

One of the worst + most costly services, are the hospital bedside telephones.

If you need to call in to speak to a patient, the cost is around 50p a minute.

For some people, the call from a loved one or friend, could be vital in their recovery. Especially if they live to far away to visit. I feel that's taking advantage of a situation, where the actual costs should be less rather than more.

These costs are even as expensive if you live right next door to a hospital.

They wouldn't be so bad if they were classed as local numbers or even national rates. But charges that are near or equal to a mobile rate, is enough to make the caller need the health service!

i agree rayman - it's a disgrace

my granny was in hospital this year and it worked out about 70p a minute during the daytime!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Too right, they are rediculously expensive... it should be free with the tele service... in basildon hospital, they have pull round tele screens on an arm with a phone attached, the tele usage costs 50p per hour, upto 5 hours per day, free after that...
In effect, it cost me £17.50p per week for my mother to have the tele on... what with the £2.00 per time parking fee, its all gone money grabbing mad... visiting twice a day Plus the tele costs... phewww.. couldnt do the phone as well.... :(

And they ban mobile phones, even thought there's no real reason.

I was in hospital and the doctors told me they didn't affect the machines so i kept mine on silent !

Hospital bed side telly is a rip off too, you get 24 hours thats runs from the time you put the card in even overnight, it should be 24 viewing hours

Friends I agree with what you say but we are getting diverted from the actual topic which is a very useful find by slinks.
I wish i knew about this site earlier ,could have saved a lot

*BUMP!*

but it is true, this site is fantastic and should be shouted about :)

Hi,

Saynoto0870.com is a brilliant site IMHO. The amount of phonecalls that have been made to companies with 0870 numbers can get (and has done previously) very expensive. furthermore there's a Geographical number on there for Medion Technical Support/Customer Services from what I can remember which is great (even though on an e-mail received from them literally 1-week ago they claim that they do not make any profit whatsoever on their 0870 number).

Best Regards.
#23
Great website - used it for ages, just thought you guys should know about (if you don't already).

www.saynoto0870.com

If you need to ring up a company such as Sky, British Gas, BT etc - don't pay sky high prices for the calls, input either the number or company in this site & it will give you geographical numbers to call !! Much cheaper :)

If the number isnt listed, request it in the forums and somebody normally helps out very quickly !

Mod Edit: Merged with the existing topic. Please use the forum 'search' facility before posting!!

top site - bump bump bump!!!

It irks me to have to pay excessive phone charges to organisations that I’m doing business with – and government departments too! A useful resource to help defeat this foul practice is: -

www.saynoto0870.com

Here you will find – and can contribute – alternatives to 0870 and 0845 and similar numbers. I find it a regular money-saving and very satisfying resource.

At least when your bank is subjecting you to the seemingly interminable misery of their internal phone routing and waiting you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you’re not paying excessively for the call.

Thanks for the post biddy :)

I merged these threads as that wonderful site has been mentioned before!
