Yeah it's a scam, and **** knows what they did when accessing his PC, this is serious stuff actually, not just your run of your mill scam by the sounds of things.

Tell him to disconnect his internet on that machine until he knows exactly what they did, and if I was him, tell him to change his passwords on all accounts he has just to be safe.

he should probably ring the police or trading standards - not much they can do now - but might help someone else ?

I got one of these calls last week, they ring up saying they're from your isp and they've heard about problems with your computer.

As we all live in the UK and have to live with some of the worst broadband in the world, 99% of people they ring do have problems, and some of them then fall for it! :x

What we really need to know is where do they get our details from, my phone number is only 6 months old and I still got a call.

I hate to think how many people fall for this scam, my mum rang me about six months ago and said she had one of these phone calls, and asked me if it would be genuine as she was having problems with her pc...

Fortunately I put her straight before they rang her again a couple of days later! She now gets them regular :x

Been a fan of this site for a while but never actually posted anything until now. Hope your friend didnt get scammed. For anyone getting these calls and any other nuisance ones add your phone and address to this http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ . i was with talktalk for years and originall was getting calls between 10 - 15 times a day. signed up here and all calls ceased. i just moved house and went with sky. and straight away back to 10 calls a day even though its a brand new line and telephone number. I registered again with this site and havent has one call since. seeems our isps and phone providers just love selling our details on. hope this helps and u can understand what im saying beacause at the moment i am blind drunk:p

Been a while since I read up on these kind of things, but if they've managed to get a keylogger onto his system then he could be screwed.

Not sure but it may just be as simple as restoring his system to a previous day (say a week ago). Should get rid of anything that's been done since then, but I wouldn't be certain about it.

Really don't know how people fall for this type of thing though :?

lol my comment got deleted..hmm ok to keep on topic, yes it is a scam you would have to be quite silly to let someone you dont know have access to your computer

I just tried signing up here, but seems I have already signed up and can't do it again- but the 5 calls a day still keep on coming, grrrrr.
