Scammer?

manchesterjim Avatar

Hi guys and girls,

Noticed someone on amazon selling a brand new sealed elite with forza 3 for just under £94 delivered. Only has 2 positive feedbacks (out of 2).

Can anyone spot anything (apart from the price) that would suggest this person is a con artist?

More to the point, would you gamble on it?

Link in 1st post.

Thanks

Jim

If you can pay by paypal in the normal way it should be ok. If the seller requests the money to be wired to an italian bank account, its a scam & needs to be reported to amazon.

you pay through amazon, so would be from my bank account. plus they have the 'a-z' cover in case someone on marketplace does try to rip you off.

He will probably send you a normal xbox 360 , Its happened to me with other items . Amazon keep the payment though if you wanted to risk it .

yeah ive risked it!

been up and down the 'A-Z' section a hundred times to make sure that im covered if anything goes wrong and from the looks of things its all good.

what do you mean they keep payment? as in the seller doesnt get paid until i say everything is ok?

thanks

It looks wayyyyyyy to good to be true dosen't it? Then you have your answer, don't be blinded by £££££££.

Don't know much about amazon cover really, so make sure you are covered.

Edit too late.........

yeah i know it does look wellll too good to be true, but i am definitely covered and dont mind risking the cash anyway ive got a little extra atm.

Best case scenario - I get an elite for £94.
Worst case scenario - I get scammed and get my money back.

If he is a con artist, I think kelkoo need to look into what search results they provide as I found it on there.

thanks

LOL, are you sure, I mean after all it will be your word against his if he sends out a non-elite console, I would say if amazon is like pp, there is no guarantees you will be covered, it could go either way!!!

But meh I don't "do" amazon, but it was indeed a risk!

If he can prove he posted it to me then yes, but he'd need to actually post it to me to get proof.

just received a msg off him saying it is deffo brand new and sealed and will be sent via special delivery either 2moz or tuesday. seems like an ok enough fella but i guess i will have to wait and see!

why the rolling eyes?
#14
So you bought one yet you can still buy them? I can maybe understand having one cheap for a quick sale but more than one at such a price....hope it works out

yeah i noticed that, well all i can do is wait. cheers me too!
#17
cheers, ive also got the link for the A-Z stuff and im still going over it again and again now and they guarantee up to £2000 coverage (free service).
#18
Amazons A to Z guarantee is very good and the customer service you receive from them during a claim is also very good.

The only thing you may lose is return carraige as if misdescribed Amazon may require you return to the sender.

It's worth the risk IMHO.

Hope this helps :)
#19
So.... has any one else went for one??

He won't get much from this mind
Prob just over £75 and that's without paying postage!!

Hey, wait. isn't this the 250gb Hard drive one??
#20
i think the 250gb one says super elite or limited edition on box. although cant find the box displayed anywhere else. im tempted as the console alone if 120gb is £189 at game.
#21
Obviously Im not gunna persuade anyone else to go for it in case he is dodgy, but as someone else has said with the A-Z cover that Amazon offer i believe its worth the risk.

what if he just sends you an empty box? Will you still be covered as he can prove delivery to amazon.

Exactly and it will be op's word against the sellers, and yet MORE people on here are considering buying it.

People are blinded by greed, that is how scams work, if it's to good to be true and all, some people must have money to burn.

Good luck to the op, could be bargain of the century, could be a scam, but anyone else before you rush in and order, think long and hard...........
#25
To anyone other than the OP (as he has already plunged in), caveat emptor!
#26
Appreciate the comments guys, atleast no ones being rude about it. And yes the brick in a box trick could well work lol but Im sure Amazon have dealt with similar problems before so if i do get conned im sure ill be able to sort it. ill keep this thread updated anyway for anyone interested.

thanks

We went for this as well, had an email that says it has been dispatched. We shall wait and see
#28
Subscribed, really want to know what happens.

I would say, try and ask the courier to wait while u open box infront of him just incase it is the brick in box trick, some couriers are happy to do this some arnt but worth a try as u have some come back then

Yeah could be a good idea. He could witness it and document it on the delivery note or something

Last place I worked for (selling powertools) we used dhl, then parcelforce for all deliveries and most of the drivers were quite happy to wait, so u never know unless u ask

Hope everything works out!

UPDATE

No replies to my emails since day before yesterday. Has confirmed dispatch but no comms. Have informed Amazon of the situation just in case and received the most customer-friendly and helpful email Ive ever received stating that I am completely covered and they will continue to observe the seller etc until I can make a claim.

So I may still receive the 360 (or brick!) and seller may have a genuine reason for not getting in touch, but I felt it necessary to inform Amazon just in case I do need to file a claim in the near future and they have reassured me that if a problem occurs I will be sorted out (refunded, not killed).

Thanks for the helpful comments so far, if the seller chooses not to post anything then he clearly is a sorry excuse for a con artist, however if I do receive a package I will deffo see if its possible to open in front of driver.

fanta123 how are you getting on mate? any contact?

Will keep the thread updated
#34
Haven't tried contacting the seller direct, just the email yesterday saying it had been dispatched.

UPDATE

After warning the seller that I would take to small claims court if he did attempt to scam me I received no replies. Checked my emails today to find that he had processed me a full refund along with this reply:

"the post office returned the item to my own adress so i will send a refund"

Oh well, nothing ventured!

fanta123 I would reccomend asking about a refund straight away buddy as this guy clearly isnt willing to send anything and is far too young to know how to carry out a proper scam so scaring him will probably force the same result that I got.

good luck mate

TBH, if I was legitimately trading on Amazon and received an email saying I would be taken to court, then I would have avoided you too and refunded.
#37
Just sent him a message saying almost the same thing that I would take him to the small claims court and that amazon were already aware of the problem. I asked that he confirm the order has been dispatched with tracking number or refund all monies sent to him.

Thanks for the update manchesterjim

Worth a go anyway :)

please read the thread. I sent him more than enough emails that all went ignored and the messages i did get were extremely fishy. also confirmed dispatch with no messages to keep me updated. obviously i wouldnt just threaten him with action for no reason. i dont mean to be rude but all your comments seem to just be asking for some sort of argument. lonely, troll or both?

Pretty much exactly what I said mate, I did inform Amazon aswell so might be worth doing that aswell. They were extremely helpful. Good luck anyways buddy.
