it takes (abeit a few minutes) police work to do it, and then the police cant fine them to make money

you need to get your scammer to drive past a speed camera, then he will get a fine

I am very wary of who i do business with, very few websites, as far as ebay, again very few sellers, and hate selling myself, and use all the protections (paypal only, recorded delivery etc) to try and make sure im covered by the protection there is. If the object isnt worth ebay fees, and recorded delivery fees, then it isnt worth selling if you cant sell with protections.

I really cant see myself buying or selling on a site such as this, as you only have reputation or trust at best. If the amount isnt large, it will just have to be a lesson of how few websites there are you can use with safety

I hope you do get your money or settlement.

Because the police have better things to do then chase up small amounts of money which often cannot be proved either way...thus let the Small Claims Courts deal with it.

its classed as petty crime-the police couldnt care less in most cases.

I'm hoping there's no member dumb enough to simply hand over money to a complete stranger and only have bank account details at hand. If it happened here then you should be following FS/FT trading rules to the full extent. Anything less and you're asking for trouble.

That said, if it happened here, let us know and we'll follow up. It's more assistance than you should expect to receive from your local police force. We take scamming/bad traders seriously and will do all we can to prevent such members trading again. However it's ultimately the members own responsibility.

Going to the police with such limited info as described is, in my own personal interpretation, wasting police time.

People will always do it I have been done on here by someone I am going to the small claims court papers going to be taken in on Tuesday.

I am lucky that I have her address and sent her a letter 1st class rec to which she told me she would now send it 2 weeks ago still waiting.

there is just too many of them for the police to cope with so the smaller things are left, and they focus on the big ones, some people are just daft though and leave their self open to scams. I know its unfair all you have done is trust someone with your money, but at hopefully those people will be a little more careful

Lol thanks to members who sent replies that were worth Reading. Some people on here just like to be rude! I was just curious that's all. Not for me in paticular and not this site!

I was scammed in here for £12 and a couple of others for small amounts too. I didnt care how small the amount was and went to the police and posted all the updates in the thread ..............and just a couple of days back we all got a refund for her. Its just horrible that people can do this.

Btw I had all the sellers details - sometimes that doesnt matter though if someone is just out to scam

That's the point I'm trying to make. You were in the position of being able to do something about it by ensuring you were able to gather the necessary details and escalate if required.

1. The police make no money from it
2. So much of it happens
3. Relevant to point 1 - They do not care

Make friends with a policeman - it's the only way they will listen to your petty problems.
