just chill, relax, take your mp3 player, and think of it as just a bus ride, it really just feels the same
its just the waiting that is stressing you out

go have a drink in the lounge, buy a book in the book store

What?!

That's the best distraction around! :p

Goto your doctors, let him/her know how you are feeling and he will give you a beta blocker or something like that and it will keep you as calm as a daisey.

Can your doctor give you a one-off stress-buster prescription?
Otherwise, go in plenty of time to the airport so you don't get stressed on the way, then have things to do at the airport like shopping, magazines, books, puzzle book (gets your mind thinking about answers not flying), music etc.
Then get to the boarding gate in plenty of time, see that the other people are excited and remember at the end of the flight you are on holiday, and probably with family and friends, if you are flying with them then hold their hand for reassurance and do the previously mentioned things to keep your mind active.
Remember that a bit of bumps and turbulence are completely normal and that there are always noises from the engines and bits moving so it's nothing to worry about when you hear odd noises.
When you check in maybe ask not to be near the engines as they can be noisy and unsettling for nervous fliers.
I hope that you have an amazing holiday.

it all started with a flight home from egypt. when we got on the plane in sharm the engines wouldn't start because they'd overheated (was august so VERY hot!) it took them a good couple of hours to cool the engines and while they were doing that we weren't allowed off the plane which was getting hotter and hotter, no engines = no aircon!
people were starting to panic because of the heat and a girl sat across the aisle from me started fitting and there were lots of shouts of "is there a doctor on the plane!" and people filming with video cameras how upset and panicy people were getting.
ever since then i've been scared stiff and can't explain it as i know it's not likely to happen again.

I'm exactly like you, I hate flying. I'm fine when I'm up there but hate the take off and landing. The turbulence makes my heart race.

I went to the docs, explained I was a nervous wreck and he gave me a beta-blocker for it, I cant remember its exact name now.

It's weird how it works. You still know of your fears, but you just dont care lol. It's very mellow, no adrenaline is realeased into your body so the fear, and anxiety doesnt take hold.

I would recommend it.

i don't like the sound of the odd noises though! :?

More likely to die on the journey to the airport. If you're really unlucky you'll become part of a TV series that relies on flashing back/forward to generate narrative

In all fairness though, it's a pretty unnatural experience so I sympathise.

It will all be fine (if its not you can now blame me!). Where you going? (yes you probably said, but I'm a man and have slept since then!).

So back to the perving, what time do I have to be at the airport!:w00t:

I have a fact for you and its real too.

More people die by being hit on the head by a coconut each year than people die in plane related deaths.

don't sit next to someone like me, i like to talk about what might happen if the plane crashes (haha once the thermometer was broken on the cockpit window so they wouldnt let us fly, stupid united, memories...) anyway, things rarely ever go wrong

also sit and write a list of things you can do to people on this thread for showing horrible images, that should be fun and take your mind off it

Ok, imagine jensen ackles naked flying the plane.....

JohnRulez,

Your posts are a disgrace and will be removed.

OP,

Diazapam and beta blockers prescribed from the doc should do the trick. It helps me a little. It doesn't cause the fear to go away, but you're kinda less bothered about it (and yer eyes will feel very heavy).

I wouldn't go anywhere without them. Saying that I cruised over hear 6 months ago and now have to go back in just over a week. I have my pills ready.

Bear in mind, if going to the docs, they might try and give you some herbal/natural remedy (they don't really work in my opinion).

Good luck and enjoy the holiday.
