What, so cables go
Sky box - tv scart -> to tv - via a scart cable
Sky box - vcr scart -> to dvd play via a second scart cable

So, if i turn on the dvd player to watch a movie the sky box would have to be off (of course) and the picture would go through "pass through"?

Splash out on a new upscailing DVD player with HDMI (from around £22), or better still a blu-ray player (from around £65).

Lol. It's all happened a wee bit quick.
I bought the lg32le4900 on here the other day coming next week but also just bought the Sony 503 on here too.
the lg only has the 1 scart and that'll probably now end up at my Ma's. She doesn't have sky hd and will not give up her dvd player bless her so needed to know, if the lg goes to her's will i need to get more cables etc but sounds like i don't :)
To be fair i still have a crt and despite it's brand name it's been bloody solid for 6 years, and, my pc is connected via s-video to scart for those glorious 3pm saturday afternoon's :)

It's not about splashing out lol it's about my Ma :) but point taken, at £22 it's a lot less hassle than having to faff about with cables, extenders, converters and the like

Don't have a sky+ box so not sure but doing it that way may mean when watching a DVD you cant record on the sky box as it will turn it on and over-ride the DVD player unless you can over-ride this with the sky box (normally called 'source' on remote controls). But you will find this out when you try it.

It wont matter about the recordings. The sky box will still record even while your watching a dvd.

No but if your half way through a film and a recording starts and your sky box jumps into life and switches to sky then it can be a tad annoying. :)

Why would it? My sky+HD box doesnt even come out of stand by to start a recording.

To be fair, reading what Gavin said he doesn't have a Sky+ box but was trying to help me out.
Don't worry, it's fine, i think i am sorted now.

I don't think it has.

I went to my Ma's today, and did as Chillyyyy suggested; left the tv scart from sky box to tv and connected the vcr scart on sky box to dvd and all worked just as they outlined and said it would, so i left it as is.

Many thanks for that, was sceptical i won't lie but it worked :) My ma said thank you too :)
