The Scheme TV Series is back on BBC 1 (also iplayer)

The BBC say the Scheme is "an observed documentary series following the dramatic and often emotional highs and lows of daily life for six different families all living in one large housing scheme in Kilmarnock".

This series is must-see TV. I grew up in Easterhouse, Glasgow and can vouch for its authenticity having seen first-hand the kind of poverty, addiction and hopelessness of housing scheme life experienced by the six families living in The Scheme.

Three episodes have been aired already, but can be viewed online via the iplayer. Episode 4 is on tonight; episodes 5 and 6 will be broadcast on Monday 30th May and Tuesday 31st May respectively. This is a post-watershed series as it contains very strong language and scenes some viewers may find disturbing, so parental guidance is advised.

so there are only 3 episodes?

watched first two about a year ago.

the mind boggles how the people can afford to sit around all day smoking cigs, drinking schnapps and taking drugs!

I watched them for the first time the other day and how they can live like that is shocking.

There are six episodes in all, three have still to be aired. Episode 4 is on tonight, episode 5 is on on Monday and episode 6 will be aired on Tuesday. I think the BBC had to delay showing all episodes last year because one of the participants was involved in legal proceedings, so they had to wait for that to finish before the last 4 episodes could be aired.

That seems like sarcasm. Nevertheless, I entreat you to watch it as this is observational documentary, not car-crash TV and as such, it provides a unique insight into the kind of existence some people actually endure. I think you might like it, but I'm certain you wouldn't want to be in it.

I used to work in Kilmarnock.

They'd do well to napalm Onthank.

I watched the first episode when it aired and couldn't bring myself to watch anymore. I don't doubt that it is authentic buy don't see it as typical.

I watched it last night and thought fair play to the lad who was going to go off to college and secured a place especially since his family is such a mess with his junkie brother and he was trying to make something of himself.

But then at the end of the show it had to say, he decided againist going to college and is currently in jail.
