This would normally be quite funny if there weren't elements of truth in all of it.

When I was at senior school in the early/mid nineties and a fight broke out kids used to crowd around and spit on them. If a small kid got too close to the fight the crowd would push him over and start spitting on him. Probably why I have issues with people spitting now.

Wasn't always rosy in the past.

Different times but it is interesting how things have turned around, I think a healthy amount of fright when we were young was ok, its odd how todays youngsters dont have that yet they think they're hard done by. Im thankfull I grew up when I did though, makes me feel human to know what respect and humility is.

cool teacher!

she is, shes immense. But she's not one of these teachers who's cool and will let us do anything, we can have a laugh with her, but we have to do our work whilst doing it or we'll suffer the consequences.

She's 15, just the way pupils speak to the teachers, its almost like teachers have come down the the kids level, not the kids working their way up to the teachers

"Becomes gay."

LOL

Scary stuff, I think you have to watch your back more these days! I am also glad I was bought up when I was ( Senior School in the 80's just after corporal punishment was banished, but still VERY well remembered) I am scared for my kids - what their schooling will bring!
#23
I Lol'd too....
Anyway, i picked my niece up last week from school. Shes 15, and was late coming out, apparantly some little div had threatened to bang the teacher out!! Wouldn't catch me getting paid 20 grand a year for that kind of grief.

was talking to a friend today who is a teaching assistant, she is currently doing a course on how to learn how to 'control' so to speak, a child who will not do as requested, speak when spoken to or is out of control physically, without touching them lol, crazy really cos we were never treated in an untoward way at school yet we knew when to stop, kids these days know they can push boundaries without alot of consequence!

Jeez - did you go to school in Beiruit!!!

A fight in my school was heralded with a shout and a mass stampeed from all over the playground to the scene of the fight which; by the time everyone had arrived; was invariably over

I think the 'becomes gay' at the end of it conveys the mindset of the author.

That is exactly what happens now aswell

Does anyone think that maybe rather than just blaming the schools, it's the parents who are actually to blame?

It a pretty nice school now but when I went through it it was on the tail end of a rough patch. I remember in my first year sitting on the bus watching at least a hundred kids with pieces of wood heading over towards a rival school for a fight. Also remember on a couple of occasions teachers having roll around on the floor fights with students and someone getting a dart stuck in their head about two feet in front of me whilst waiting for an english lesson. It was also called 'death school' by the media at one point.

It got far better towards the end as money was pumped into it and it now has amazing facilities, especially in media and the arts.

I would never have dreamed of doing anything like that when I went to school and I never saw anyone else do it either.
We used to have respect for our elders then, especially the likes of police and teachers.
I don't know what the answer is, but I'm fairly sure SOME parents don't help matters these days.

That's actually why I did find it funny. I laugh at society and what it's become.
