NHS car parking charges abolished

An interim cap of £3 per day has been in place since January
Car parking charges are to be abolished at NHS hospitals across Scotland, the health secretary has announced.

An interim cap of £3 per day has been in place since January.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said the move would help reaffirm the NHS's founding principle of healthcare free at the point of delivery.

The move, which takes effect from 31 December, applies to 14 hospitals where fees operate. Charges at three PFI car parks will not be scrapped.

england wales and n.ireland should follow - but they wont - especially england

My local hospital is one of those with a contract in place but they have changed the fee from £1.40 for three hours to £1.20 for six hours.

but there is a downside. According to the Healthcare Commission you have to wait longer for treatment in Wales compared to England.....

I wish they would introduce this in England. I work at a Hospital and they charge£180 per year for staff to park in the car park. Worse thing is that does not even guarantee you a parking space and it is not reduced if you work part time. So as I work part time and start work at 9am after the kids have gone to school there is very often not even a space for me!!!!:x
