how are you putting it in lappy, with the adaptor that came with the sd card, or a usb adapter, if its the one that comes with the sd card i find them extrememly tempramental

yeah the one that came with the phone, ive never had trouble with it before but ive not used it for ages so it must be the adapter thats not working.

give it a blow on the contacts, and give it a few trys, i find they are useless in my lappy, 9 times out of 10 it never shows, just have to keep pressin it in and out till it gets recognised, get yaself a usb one - lol

Look in your control panel, it sounds like your Autoplay defaults have been changed.

Edit: Just realised that it is not seen at all, scrap my suggestion.

I don't know what she has, it could be a Mini SD as in one of my phones, there is more than one way to skin a cat.

If the card is a SDHC card the laptop my not be configured / able to access these.

Have a look on the card and see if it says SDHC. If so search google for software to upgrade the drivers for your card slot on the laptop. Install this and you should be well away

Two things to try here:

If you can beg, borrow, and not steal, try a different card reader and/or your current card reader in a different system.

If a different card reader works, you will know what the issue is.

If your current card reader work in a different system, then on yours check Disk Manager to make sure your card is getting a drive letter assigned. (you should see your card drive after the card reader has been plugged in).

I keep a rubber pencil eraser in my computer toolkit. It is invaluable for gently cleaning grubby flat contacts.

100% Correct, HD Cards will not work in some internal card readers, get a USB one (Size of a USB flash drive)

BTW What phone is it, What make of card and did the card work before in the card reader ?
