With the 2l diesel engine, the turbo has a habit of failing (blowing up) once the mileage starts getting high. Check the paperwork to see if this has ever been replaced. If it has not make sure you can feel it kick in at about 2500 - 3000rpm. Better to ask on an owners forum to be honest. They will know all the nagging, expensive faults to look for.

All the ones ive seen of this age seem to have poor bodywork, so pay extra atention to one that seems in very good order on the wings, sills etc. Look for signs of being sprayed.

You can't. The heads only really have problems once they've overheated.

Just be sure the temp doesn't go over halfway. And listen for a whistly turbo.
