Theres plent of free programes that are also very good

If you are with virgin you can get they're free PC Guard free if not you pay for it. It is just kaspersky with a virgin logo though. AVG is probably your best alternative though, get from download.com make sure you get the free one though. Look at their top downloads and you'll see plenty of free virus programs

+1 AVG all the way!

AVG let me down several times. I use Kaspersky now, it's free but I don't know where it came from. The PC chap who fixed it after the last virus installed it, and said it was more reliable than AVG.

Edit: Just double checked it's not free! My PC guy must've been giving me a freebie. But when this expires next year I shall definitely be renewing. £40 is cheap. I had the free AVG thingy and three times got screwed by nasty bugs. And I am uber careful not to click on links I don't like. Still managed to get done. Cost me a small fortune in PC repair man time. Perhaps he gave me the Kaspersky just to get rid of me.

AVG has gone downhill in the last 2 versions. I always have recommended avast, but have heard good things about avira.

If you have your bank account with barclays, they give kapersky for free (normally £40), or abbey / A&L offer a different one for free. Once you login you can see it advertised.

I have been using avast for 3 years now and will never go elsewhere (unless it does an AVG)

I will have to agree with you on this one.
It's a very lightweight package, and integrates well with XP/Vista/7 :)
