Sending a Check for passport to Home Office Identity and Passport Service

I've looked high and low and I don't know who's name to put on the check.
I don't even know if I can send a check.
They are 'recommending' the Check & Send service at the Post Office® (£8) who will include Royal Mail Special Delivery™

However I don't need my documents checking (I'm applying for my children's passports).
I am happy with the Signed For™ service and even have full trust in 2nd class post for that matter.

It's already costing me £100 for two kids and now they recommend i pay another £22 to Post Office®.
I almost can guarantee that my local Post Office® Clerk will say "oh I thought you said Special Next Day™ with Check & Send™ and Secure Delivery™ for your returning documents, anyway I cant cancel it now it's been printed out. That'll be £152.99 please"
- as this is always the case when i'm just sending my mums sicknote to the jobcentre.

pardon me?

I didn't get it either.

£22 is for the documents security you would have to be pretty silly not to take it, I'm sending off passports and have to send off my marriage certificate with my wifes passport, wouldn't want to go through the hassle of trying to get that again, and having to wait around for it. Yes Christmas is a tight period but if you can afford to go on holiday outside of the country you can afford the insurance?

i just renewed 2 kids passports @ £49 each, thats all it cost, i used the online form (fill it out online, they post it to you, sign and return, no errors that way)

just posted old passports, photos and form 1st class, done!

first time passports need original proof documents, (birth, marriage etc) just send them registered post.

You do know that check and cheque are two different things.

"Check and send" does not mean you have to pay by cheque. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn219/jumpingphil/thumbsup.gif

Exactly what I thought, check is the american spelling for cheque.

The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) recommends that you submit your passport application using the Check & Send service offered by certain Post Office branches. The service includes checking your application form and supporting documents before they are sent off. It is usually faster than a standard postal application.
