Somebody on another forum wants to buy something from me for £20, but he is in the USA.
So he needs to send me $30 USD, but the thing is he doesnt have paypal and doesnt want to risk sending cash through the post.

What is the easiest way for him to pay me?

If I give him my UK bank details, can he go into a USA bank and easily transfer the money direct into my account, or is it more complicated because it is international?

Thanks! :)

tbh i would be very wary about giving bank details out. don't know what to suggest otherwise tho soz

you dont need to have a paypal account to SEND money, just an email address
#3
bank details is fine to give, you need sort code, acc #, acc holder name and iban #

you could also try one of these (they cost though) ebookers, moneybookers, western union, alert pay and many others etc

dont give out your bank details to anyone you dont know!

tell him to sign up for PayPal - takes about 10mins max (tell him 5mins so he signs up) - all he really needs are his 'Bank account details & sort code'.

PayPal is the safest way to pay online IMO - apart from direct purchases via encrypted sites.

no one can do anything with your details, only transfer money & set up direct debits (the direct debit guarentee protects you)

paypal only needs debit card or credit card to send money,

western union is the fastest if he's prepared to pay the fees

get him on paypal, then hes set up for life (almost)

or he could walk/fly/swim over with it. or send a parcel via registered post with it in.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Ive emailed him letting him know the options, and tried my best to convince him to register with paypal :-D If not, I might give him my bank details so he can transfer direct into my bank. It cant be that risky because the details I need to give him are on a cheque anyway, and I often send cheque's to people I dont know without thinking twice :w00t:

cheques bounce

My wife's family use Moneygram to send money over here. Most if not all Walmart supermarkets do it and the fees are less than Western Union. You can pick up the money an hour later from any Thomas Cook or large Post Office.

Get him to send a travelllers cheque!

A bank transfer from the USA to the UK would probably cost him about $30 so I don't think it's worth it that you give him your details.

If you call your bank ask them how much it would cost you to transfer money to an American account last time I did one I believe it was around £20 or £30.

This might have change though but I still think there is a charge.

Western Union or Moneygram is probably your best option is they don't have or want to use Paypal
