Sending money through paypal gift, still wanting fees!
Hi, im trying to buy a phone from someone through paypal gift but it is still saying it will charge me £4.79 in fees? Why is it saying that either me or the seller has to pay the fees. This deal is not through eBay but through a forum similar to how people buy and sell here.

Really? I sent £10 to someone the other day and it cost me about 50p
Looks like I have!!
Only had an account since day 1
Just been reading up on the website, think I need to amend my account details, good job it was only £10 I sent!!
If paying paypal 'gift' - you pay the fees on behalf of the transaction.
That's the whole idea, you 'gift' it to someone>>they pay no fees.
As in if you're selling an item it's in your interest to negotiate a paypal gift transaction.

I've been sending money as PayPal Gift and I've never been charged a fee, neither has the recipient.
Doesn't make any difference to my account whether they take the money from account, credit card or bank account. No charges for PayPal Gift.
Does the account type make a difference? I'm PayPal Verified with a Premier Account.
Man you got your wires crossed.
Paypal gift is 'free' to the recipient.
Say I bought a game off you for £20 via paypal gift. It would cost me £20+fees (50p or something) as the fee.
You'd receive the full £20, but the transaction would cost me £20.50(for instance).
I've used paypal gift dozens of times so I know what I'm talking about.

pugw$sh is correct neither pay fees if it's sent as a "gift" payment as long as the sender is using their paypal balance, if the person paying is using their bank account (ie has no money in paypal account) then the sender pays a fee.
Ah ok - I never really have a paypal balance so it always comes of my card, I'm charged for my gift payments cos I pay via card then.

I just had a quick search on paypal site -
If you do a "Personal payment" & you use a paypal balance or bank account then there should be no fees, doesn't say anything about a credit card though so if you pay using that maybe that's where the charge occurs?
However if you send using the "Purchase" raher than "Personal" you also get charged a fee ( from memory I think the recipient is charged unless the sender chooses to pay it)
