Do you think it would be cheaper to try a repair shop for example, all in all ACER are saying with parts and labour it will cost 200 quid to repair as it's not covered under the warranty.

This is the one that's expensive but i don't know what it is,it's my sisters netbook not mine btw.

MB.S7506.001 MAIN BD.945G.1.6.WO/3G

She's not aware of any spillage but they said this :

Liquid spillage Keyboard and Touchpad faulty, Mainboard USB Connector physically damaged, not covered by ACER Warranty.
Warranty chargeable.

Have a look on youtube - if its a popular model someone will already have posted a vid showing you how to replace the keyboard etc

I've found local computer shops expensive but their are some repairers who "sell" their services on ebay for a reasonable price.

Not for 200 quid no,but it's less than a year old and she paid 300 quid for it,god knows why,i told her not to buy it but she wouldn't listen.

are acer try to rip you off, its not un-heard of, they are getting like kwikfit

House insurance? you could try another independant place but it depends what requires replacing. I would imagine if its anything to do with the motherboard it is going to be kissing it goodbye and getting another unfortunately. If only she'd listen to big sis.;)

What was wrong with it?

So effectively a new laptop other than the screen and case! :D

As others have said..... go the insurance route.

The Acer price for the MB actually seems very cheap compared to a quick google, the rest look well over £200 so far.

Have a look on ebay, can't look as you haven't stated model number.

break it up and sell it as spares on the auction sites and use the money to buy a new one, theres a second hand Z8 on ebay for £185 (120631010984) or £41 for a faulty one to chop and shut (190456185016). Also if your sister is sure she hasn't spilt anything on it then check it yourself for signs of water damage. If there isn't any take it to trading standards.

My whole Acer netbook only cost £162 new from PC world..... She needs to look for better bargains.

Exactly, she's an impulse buyer, shopping channels too,QVC talked her into buying it lol

Someone my boyfriend knows is going to look at it as he thinks possible they are taking the pee saying the motherboard needs replacing as you can still actually use the netbook,it's only the keyboard that seems to be faulty, they said the touchpad was part of the same problem but that hasn't worked correctly from practically day one so i can't see the two are part of the same so called spillage problem.

They tried to charge her 50 quid as well for an assessment fee when there was no meniton of this BEFORE she returned it to them, she rang up to complain and they said don't bother paying it,i should think so too, seem a right bunch of morons.

I'm calling for a boycott lol
