Hi People,
I have a online store I'm trying to improve the SEO of so it appears higher in google searches. Does anybody think if I set up a second website like http://www.***********-information.co.uk and used it as an informational site with manuals, product reviews, videos, a forum, a weekly column etc with links to the e-commerce site it would improve the SEO of the original site?
I know you guys are so knowledgeable I thought I'd give you a whirl.
Many thanks in advance
David

use meta tags in your website content, only use tags which are a likeness to your site

the second site may not improve the seo greatly but if the information site gets high traffic it can lead to a good seo for both sites

the best way to get high in google is to get links to your site...... google checks for how many sites include links to your site, so advertise with google adwords, put your website name in the sig on any forums your a member of etc

there are so many ways to improve your google rankings. The best way as faevilangel said is to have lots of links to your site. Putting your url on forums would possibly work, but sometimes against forum rules, and not really the best practice way of doing it. What you need is relevant links to your site from other websites.

So to take an example, a website designer would host examples of their work in their portfolio section of their site, there would be a link to the website they'd designed, and on the customers site, if agreed in a contract would hold the link back to the designers site. You could then link from online adverts/listings/yell etc and build from there.

Your second site, unless already well established and linked to won't improve your rankings on its own though. But a well established website linked to yours would.

Other ways to improve are to use metatags to describe your website. Look at similar websites to yours and what they use. Name and describe any images suitably. Use H1, H2, P tags. Use CSS to design your site and have a great HTML foundation.

Hope it helps
