People were in the last post. This month because my girlfriend comes over they want her to contribute.

She's here 3.5 days a week on average and the bills for a month.

The total bill is £104.20. There's 4 of us in the house. So were going to pay £26.05 each. How much should my gf contribute if she's here 3.5 days a week?

Many thanks! If anyone wants some zavvi vouchers just say!

xy 2 x 3.5 - 7 x 5 -1

£6.97
#2
£13.02
#3
Bully
xy 2 x 3.5 - 7 x 5 -1 £6.97

cant follow that-surely if one persons contribution is 26.05 for 7 days then someone staying half that time pays half that amaount?

These posts give me a headache :p

104.20 divided by 30 (31 if 31 days in the month) = 3.47 a day
£3.47 divided for 5 (including girlfriend) = 69p each a day
69p x 3.5 = £2.43 a week for girlfriend to pay

which in a month of 30 days = £10.41

What I'd do is:

104.20/8 = £13.02 for her
£104.20-£13.02 = £91.18 / 4 = £22.80 each for the rest of you.

Surely she should be paying 50% of what the others pay.

personally, I think your mates are tight gits for what is going to be about £2.50 per person per month lol
#8
Agree with only me calculations.

But to make it easier I would say charge her £12 and you lot pay £23 each as rounds it off and she is there half the time. Thats unless you want to do it by the penny?

Although actually if she doesnt do washing etc there then she should pay less.

blow job and a steak every night

or maybe its OP being tight, if rest are happy paying £26.05 for the month, then its OP who wants his GF to pay part of his £26.05 :)

I do agree though that she should be paying something for her stay, I would agree with Shelly and just charge her £12

your flat mates want to charge your gf for coming over? are they mad?

agree £104.20/4.5 = £23.16 each
half that = £11.57 for her

who cares about the steak?

Your flat mates sound like total ****.

How about you don't charge her and get her to buy a takeaway every so often, or beer.

brb calculating how much i can charge my gf for coming over.
#15
4 at £23.16= £92.64 and the gf should pay £11.56 near enough half of what the others pay.
#16
and one of these flatmates is the guy who has been downloading torrents and stopping everyone else connecting? sounds like a great place to live...........
#17
Not my idea... I personally don't think she uses anything because she's in my room so energy would be used regardless, can't say no though can I?

I'd argue that most of the costs are fixed i.e costs your house would have incurred with or without your girlfriend staying there with the only exculpation being hot water. Ignore what the bill is - ask yourself what would be a fair price - FREE should be the answer but it's clearly not!

I'd say the bills have probably gone up by 5% max from her staying over so factor this in I'd say a contribution of approx £7.50.
#19
Are these people mates you knew beforehand or just people you got stuck with? Because I moved into a student house with mates at uni and we had people coming and going all the time but we didnt charge them! lol

Whether your girlfriends is there or not, the heating, the lights etc. are still on. The only extra she may use is some for the shower and a small amount for any other items she uses, laptop etc.

Were they people just for one night though lol

I like you. That was my point but maybe asked two to pay a little more towards the first bill because they moved in 1 month before uni. So I think this is just to be a pain.

And yeh it is a great place to live... All the bills in my name and sorted out me AND I sort out a blocked toilet, oven, window and roof with the landlord. Rant over. (sorry)

If your asking me then no, im talking about partners being around for 3/4 days a week

I think you should take a stand mate. Tell them no.

I know times must be tight for students but arguing over £2.50 saving each a month is just stupid.

Or tell them to get gfs of their own and stop being jealous.
#26
she pays £10.42
you 4 pay £23.45
#27
Are your flatmates going to get their guests to pay every time they pop round?

If it's really a bone of contention, I'd do as a previous poster suggested and get a pizza or the beers in once a month or at worst, pay the difference myself. I certainly wouldn't expect my OH to pay out. Are you paying her when you stay over?
#28
How about get your housemates girlfriends and see if they change their tones!

Jesus christ, they sound like complete dicks.

Stop at your girlfriends and then don't pay them for the nights you weren't in your own flat.

She is there half the time of anyone else.
There are 4 others.
That equals 9 "half" times in the place.

That equals £11.58 for each half residency.

So she pays £11.58 and everyone else pays £23.16.

Simples.

Spot on!

not if the 4 flat mates are all blokes. Loo roll costs will triple, not to mention heating costs as she whacks the thermostat up to 25 degrees every time she can lol

Your friends want to charge your gf to stay over a few nights a week and you are going to have the balls to ask her?It will be a non issue soon as if she has the sense she is born with she'll dump you, for ever considering asking.

She offered at the start of the year and I said no. I don't want to ask her it's my friends amazing ideas. Secondly she uses nothing she doesn't touch the thermostat, when she's cold she gets in bed and increases layers. I'm going to end up paying this extra amount but they've said "I want her to contribute" so I'm asking how much is fair. (to me nothing) but what can I do when the bills in my name and it's set up to come via direct debit?

Theyll just be kn0bs and not pay and let me go into debt. The amount of problems this year. It's like trying to live with a bunch of babies!

erm, pay the £3 per week yourself (make sure you give them £1 per week each to make them realise what idiots they are. Oh, and ask for 25p from each of them if they ever have good fortune and pull for the night lol).

and look for someone to move in with!

She could always claim it back for 'services rendered' :D

Understand... I'm not asking her... I'm being told they want to pay less... See my next comment in a second.

I went for ur formula, the others will pay £23.62 and I'll pay £33.62. But I'll make life hard I won't pay in cheques or sort out any bills. I've create a letter to post to British gas to get their names on the bill so they can sort them out in future. Oo I'll add the price of a stamp to their bill to be pedantic :-)

Her staying 3.5 days every week is quite a lot though, so although they're been dicks I can kinda see where they are coming from, does she not have a job or family?

Works Monday, uni 9-6 tues, work wed, every other week uni thurs.

I really do need her here to keep me sane... This crap happens all the time :-(

It's like I found the house and they tried to lump me in the small room, when two of them go out an sleep in the same room anyway! Managed to get the medium room but it's so much stress. I'm doing a HR degree too. Can't wait to delicate all this responsibilty. Least I know what it's like to deal with awkward people
