the car has een serviced by honda garage, however what gets me thinking is he had a honda garage 5 miles away from him but every service he had done was by the same honda and it was 100 miles from him

Maybe they were cheaper or he worked in that area.

Honda keep a database of all services carried out by their own dealers, check with an authorised Honda Dealer.

Be VERY careful.
A while ago i went to see a golf tdi.
It was the 150 version and absolutely MINT!
I couldnt believe it as i had just changed jobs and needed to get a diesel for work.
Went out in it, drove it and it was So smooth and quick!
The inside of it was like new and it had full vw history.
I had been warned about it before so i said i wanted the car but i just needed to check the mileage/history so i rang the vw garage.
I explained that i was just about to buy the car and gave him the reg etc.
The guy on the other end of the phone asked me again if i was buying the car, i replied yes.
He said WALK AWAY NOW!!
I was like :?
He said the car was last serviced by VW 5 years ago!!!!
It was still a case of heart ruling head but in the end i didnt buy it.
Unbelievably exactly the same thing happened at the very next car i looked at.
I rang the garage again and the same thing again. The car hadnt been serviced by VW for 6 years!
I couldnt beleieve it.
It obviously goes on a lot out there so just give any honda garage a bell (if you dont have the number for the specific garage) as it should be on their system anyway. Ask them when it was last serviced.
Good luck :)

Not if it was serviced by an independent specialist. The guy at VW wouldn't have known that.

Obviously this only applies to main dealer servicing..

What, finding out what service history the car actually has? Not at all, if it is a nationwide service chain they will also keep records, if it is an independent specialist, they will also do so. You just need to look at the stamp and call their number and ask.

I often see main dealer service stamps on ebay. Its a joke really when people say full main dealer service history.

What difference does it make whether it's serviced by a main dealer or a specialist using genuine parts?

The only difference is the bill at the end

In fact the specialist is more likely to take proper care and attention of your car - main dealers don't give a stuff
