Karen Matthews has been charged with child neglect and perverting the course of justice. What do you all think about that then?

does that :?

It might have been an attempted scam to get cash from the Medeleine McCann fund and other sympathetic people... It's alteady been reported from the McCann media rep/manager that he was approached for money.

Is Shannon's mum called Waynetta by any chance???
#9

Yeah, I saw that too, what struck me as strange (amongst other things) was the shot of the Mother sitting eating her way through a bag of 'Quavers' and in the background the Step-Dad on the computer - as if you could be bothered or in the least bit itnerested in all of that under the circumstances of not knowing where your daughter was and if she was alive. Acting seemingly normal.

There was a report in one of the papers that Social Sevices were considering taking Shannon away from her mother before she disappeared

Apparently the case is being kept under review which usually means further charges against other people.

They look like the people who shop in the local Asda near me!!!:-D
It's what they choose to spend their income on, when I was on benefits I give up smoking and the drink to give my daughter what she needed and for us both to have a decent standard of living. It's a struggle for some on benefits, but it's about prioritising. And clearly some of these families on this estate don't. They basically want to have their fags, weed, booze, cake and eat it!!!:-D

it isnt about being financially deprived, they can have as much money as needed nothing would change, they do not know how to proritise, they probably have never been taught to, there mentality is the problem not the finances

its quite sad really, there is going to be the odd one that will beak away from this when old enough, but when you live in and around it all your life then it becomes your life, they see no harm in what they do, how they live etc, etc

depending on the age it is posible to change the class of an individual but leave it to late and they will revert at first oppertunity and end up being classless and as a result may turn in on themselves and have a lot of hate for society

lets hope with shannon they are not too late

I understand that, I have lived in many bad areas in my childhood, one of the places I lived as a child had regular suicides, drug taking and murder. I saw how other people lived at school and had aspirations to have that happiness and comfort one day that other pupils took for granted. It's about hope really, if you've got none you will stay in the viscious cycle forever. I had lots of hope and never gave up despite everthing around me. Sadly some of the children on the estate I was on, have grown into work shy slobs who sadly have the 'more kids = more money' mentality and the 'I'll scream and swear at my kids in the street if I want to' mentality:?

I just cant believe she's 32

Some state to get into

Something my parents said that interested me, be they guilty or not the media has been far worse with them than they ever were with the Mccans, repeadedly highlighting about their background and hinting about things.

If they Mccans daughter was found, do you think there would be all this fuss and the daugher kept from the parents for ages.

There is a difference here. That is, the McCann's haven't done anything wrong. This family, it appears, have been involved in the the 'abduction' of their own child, for financial gain or something else. The reason the daughter was kept from her family was precisely because the police suspected they were involved somehow. If the situation were reversed, Madeleine would be held by the social services too. Your innuendo about about different treatment for different classes may indeed be true in many cases, but this is not one of them. What's more, the media treatment of the McCann's - who to the best of our knowledge are completely innocent - has actually been appalling. I think perhaps you haven't been paying careful attention, otherwise you would know of the outrageous suggestions repeatedly made by the media (both foreign and domestic) in that case.

I wouldn't say the McCann's haven't done anything wrong, they left 3 young children alone while they went out for dinner! I would never dream of doing that with my kids, i would have taken them with me & let them sleep in their pushchair or on a chair by me if they wanted to sleep, isn't this what normal people do on holiday? You'd think that being educated people they would know you never leave your children that young home alone & i'm surprised that social services haven't got involved with the twins....

Ok, point taken, although I'd much rather state my sympathy towards the McCann family than blame them. This is an ongoing debate I've been having with my partner too, btw. Although neither of us would leave our young kids alone in a hotel room either, I'd be naive (and a hypocrite) to try and suggest that I've never inadvertently exposed my children to potential danger - I'm an educated person too, but I have broken the speed limit on the motorway with my kids in the car, for example. Should social services get involved in my case too? Anyway, you know where I'm going with this. It is important to consider intent in such cases.

true, i think most people have gone over the speed limit with kids in the car (not on purpose i hope), but it still doesn't justify leaving their kids alone night after night. I think in this country if you left your child home alone social services would get involved though as the child would be considered at risk especially if the police have been involved

I have had my suspicions about all this for a while now, and noticed how normal they were.

I think the perverting the course of justice charge is....she was asked who she had seen and she didnt reveal until AFTER Shannon was found, she saw the bloke that supposedly kidnapped Shannon otherwise he would of been top of the list and she would of been found a lot sooner.

I think she saw the money that the McCanns had got and wanted to get some money, maybe in a lot of debt or something but its just soooo wrong, i could never do that to my child.
Im suprised she never noticed if he was into child porn as well (the stepdad) as im guessing from previous comments that the computer was nearby from the documentary comments about him sat in background.

I think the whole family is a screwed up family from looks of it!!!
