You need to really define shoddy. Sharp used to be a top notch brand of budget audio equipment such a portable tape players and midi hifi. I can't remember seeing a sharp tv though.

Well, most panels are actually Sharp.

I think this has more to do with Foxconn wanting to obtain rights to the Sharp name in North America following their takeover of Sharp in 2016.

Clearly they would rather be selling Foxconn manufactured TV's under the Sharp brand name than allowing Hisense to do this.

Agreed and I admit I'm bit harsh on sharp due to their lacklustre 4k budget range. They just don't compete on the budget range with Samsung, Sony and LG. I assume Sharp still make the high tier Aquos range themselves and let hisense produce their lower tier sets, abit like wharfedale and argos.

No idea about the Japanese market, but the Sharp trademark for televisions in Europe has been licensed to UMC for a number of years and to Hisense in the US since 2015.

That's probably why the brand has lost traction against the other major players. Do you think Sharp will go after the european market next ?

According to wiki Sharp Japan TV brand is the dominant brand in Japan. I guess under performing markets in the US and europe mean't they had to cut their losses.

They're suing Hisense? have they not seen the rubbish UMC are churning out with their name on here in Europe? and even before UMC they had Vestel making their cheaper TV's. Nothing wrong with Hisense imo.

As for the Aquos range, I've seen Vestel made Sharps sporting the Aquos branding. Their panels are usually good but these days its very rare to see a consumer TV with a Sharp Panel inside it that's smaller than 60inches.

I guess this might happen if they succeed in the US.

The Chinese need to get their bayonets sharpened and prodding them in between the 5 year old slave workers. It drives me mad that the kids are slacking off, 4 hours of sleep and a bowl of dog meat is more than they deserve.

I agree, I have a Hisense TV, and my daughter has a Sharp, the difference in quality is streets apart
