Sheikh Escapes Beating Charge Because 'He Was Drugged'

You may remember some time ago a Sheikh from the United Arab Emirates was filmed dragging a farmer out into the desert surrounded by police and beating and running over him because he lost a bag of grain. The sheikhs brother is Chief Justice.

Anyway, he used the defence that he was drugged by someone and didnt know what he was doing, and got away with it.

Mr al-Mulla said the fact the trial had taken place was "a sign that the UAE is showing that everyone in this country can be put in front of law and judged".

and then let of again if there income is above £1 billion a year

Apparently clear video evidence of a beating just isnt enough if you're rich !

I lived in the UAE, it's just how it is there...but to be honest we are not much better here, simply it's not so in your face. I remember a rape case whereby the charge can be avoided if the man marries the woman. The Emirati offered to marry the woman, a Filipino worker, and at the same time paid her off and bought her a one way ticket home! To be fair to the UAE they are learning and things are getting better, they are far worse places.

Corruption and nepotism. What's new? Most of these "Sheikhs" and leaders don't speak for their people, and yet western governments gladly do business with them, when it's in their economic interests. Not to say the western leaders are any better.
