Just thought I'd let those that don't already know, Sherlock Series 4 is starting back tomorrow.

The question that's on everyone's mind, Will Moriarty make a return?

Episode 1 Synopsis: (DO NOT READ IF YOU WISH TO GO IN BLIND)
One mysterious case in particular baffles Scotland Yard, but Sherlock is more interested in a seemingly trivial detail. Why is someone destroying images of the late prime minister Margaret Thatcher? Is there a madman on the loose? Or is there a much darker purpose at work? Something with its roots deep in Mary Watson's past...

...The question that's on everyone's mind, Will Moriarty make a return?

His posthumous vengeance will feature throughout the three episodes.

On my mind is; "Will the characters return for a movie after the conclusion of this series?".

Will Moriarty make a return?
It'll look as though he has, but guaranteed it will be a part of some elaborate scheme and he actually died when we saw him die. It wouldn't really be Sherlock otherwise.

I've never watched sherlock, is each episode a different story or is it ongoing and best watched from the start of a series or worth downloading the box sets and watching from the start of the first series?

Each episode can be viewed as it's own story but there is a overarching plot throughout :)

Culverton Smith is tonight's foe.

https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/976x549_b/p04m70z5.jpg
(played by Toby Jones)

* Contains potential spoilers for Sherlock series 4 (well, in the sense that it talks about the hundred-year-old story that inspired one of its characters) *

Not at all personally i think its heading downhill fast but will keep watching just to find a pearl overall really enjoyed season one and two highlights anything featuring Moriarty and a Scandal in Belgravia and the Reichenbach Fall .Didn't enjoy the hound episode.
Then onto season 3 really enjoyed the sign of 3 but didn't think that much to the others even though i like Lars as an actor. Now we are onto season 4 two of the weakest episodes of the whole lot.But i live in hope anyway whats your opinion of it so far.

By the end we might see Sherlock popping out of the Tardis

Well, fingers crossed that you like the last episode (for the foreseeable future, if not forever *) next week, then.

* The filming schedules (& popularity) of Cumberbatch & Freeman mean the programme is put on hold for some time. Next week's episode has supposedly been written so that if it is the very last story, then it will conclude with a satisfying ending.

...overall really enjoyed season one and two highlights anything featuring Moriarty and a Scandal in Belgravia and the Reichenbach Fall .Didn't enjoy the hound episode.

"Baskerville" was the weakest of those three, yes but, to be fair, the story has been 'done' so many times in the past, it may have been difficult to find a new angle on it.

archer1204

Sherlock's best man speech was good; yes.

archer1204
...Now we are onto season 4 two of the weakest episodes of the whole lot.But i live in hope anyway whats your opinion of it so far.

Episode 1 (last week) was an obvious set-up for #2 & #3.

I guessed the identity of "E" [Sian Brooke] in the opening scene(s) of #2 (unfortunately), but it still played-out to be (more) enjoyable (than last week's episode).

"Sherrinford" was not in Conan Doyle's original work (other than being the original name for the character that was later renamed Sherlock), of course, so there is a lot of scope for playing with this character in the next episode.

The dialogue from Mycroft & Sherlock in the past referring to their third sibling has been ambiguous to a point, so Eurus ("Εὖρος") could be a fourth sibling or a twist on Sherrinford (taking inspiration from what happened with two of the main characters in the "Elementary" TV series a few years ago).

The big question remaining, I suppose... Is "Miss Me?" quoted in relation to Moriarty, Eurus, or Sherrinford... or even Mary... or John?

No, that will not happen (unless you look for the Sherlock/Who crossover fan-made video on YouTube.com).

OK, perhaps another outstanding question...

Was this interpretation of Culverton Smith supposed to be Jimmy Savile?

Finally, for now... I thought Una Stubbs was very good in the latest episode, & I hope Louise Brealey, Rupert Graves, & Una get some more screen-time next week.

A quick bit of research this is what i found another mention of Sherrinford was William S. Baring-Gould's 1962 fictional biography of Sherlock introduced "Sherrinford" as the oldest as Holmes brother – and the character has since been picked up in a number of spin-off stories. Sherrinford Holmes even makes an appearance in a Doctor Who novel called All-Consuming Fire.
In Six Thatchers Mycroft moves a Reigate Square takeaway menu to find the "13th" note. "The Adventure of the Reigate Squire" is a Sherlock Holmes story, asking the person on the other end of the line “Put me through to Sherrinford, please,”
So will Harri make an appearance and i just booked to watch it at my local cinema on Sunday fingers crossed for a good one.Still a few questions to be answered.

Yes, I know that, but thanks.

Is Tom Hiddleston playing "Sherrinford"?... is one of those questions

^ Just to add to your research... the third (eldest) brother was introduced as, in the time when Conan Doyle was writing, it was customary for the firstborn (well, male, but whatever) to stay at "home" to become the Squire of the Estate.

The second child went into the Civil Service (i.e. Mycroft), & that left Sherlock to follow his own path.

That tweet could well be Gatiss laying a false trail but, yes, I think it is probably the case that Hiddleston is one of the Holmes clan.

As for Sherrinford it could be an actual place where Eurus was being held already tried some anagrams of Sherrinford without much joy.
It could even turn out Moriarty was Mary's secret lover making Rosie Moriarty's not Johns.

Sherrinford Mental Asylum/Institute for the Criminally Insane, for instance?

Perhaps you can find more anagrams for those combinations of words! ;)

Anything is possible, but we didn't meet Mary Morstan in the programme until Moriarty shot himself.
