most people know about this tip but its surprising how many dont think off it so thought i'd post.

you buy something for somebody at christmas only to discover its 50 % off in the sales so what do you do?

well keep all receipts - most allow you to get a refund up to 28 days and many shops extend that over the christmas period so simple buy the item at half price and then return it the next day with full price receipt.

why not just buy the things you like now....
return them when the price goes down...
then buy them a second later?

is that not allowed?

Because if it's a gift for someone, you wouldn't have the one to return. Only if it's something you'd bought for yourself.

Thanks marko4ever24  I hadn't thought of that. I always think I need the original item, but you don't. great tip! :-D

I mentioned this to my mum she told me to **** off. Could have got her £20 back.

Why would she say that to you? :? You don't have to ask her for the present back to take back. Or if you're talking about something she bought you, then I supposed it's up to her if she wants the money back or not.

Clothing has a different code even though same item so be careful as I tried this method but they wouldn't take it back... Plus a lot of shops now such as Debenhams will not refund on anything 50% off or more

nice mum you have there!!!

some shops will refund the differnce without quibble if you have a store card with them..

eg New Look and Wallis.

but it is up to you to spot it at the lower price and ask for the refund.

don't know if any other shops do this.

I have taken a jumper my wife bought me for Christmas back to a store a few years ago on Boxing Day, then went and bought it again for half the price a few weeks later mid way through the January sales. I had an extra £25.00 to spend :)

i remember next putting a red mark on all the labels to sale items, so as soon as they see that combined with a full price receipt they'd know something was a bit fishy.

Shouldn't say this but whats to stop you buying someone a kettle from cu**ys or c0m£t, then going back in store after xmas pick one of the shelf and return not wanted?
Would you get something back??
#13
I took some slippers back for a refund once as me and my sister had both bought my dad a pair. But I was told they were now reduced in the sale and I would only get back the price for what they are now. I was disgusted. Are they allowed to do this?

I think most of the electrical items have security tags in the boxes don;t they? They also have camara's in store so not worth the risk is it? lol

Well it's theft for one, so the same thing stopping you as mugging somebody.

This thread is suggesting you commit fraud.

No was looking at the point like someone said it's tagged but your not leaving the store.
It was one of these questions whats bugged me but you never get a answer to.
I watch the police camera action progs and why do they show how the crims do it, It's showing others how to do it.
But ain't it wrong to lie why your taking stuff back only to go buy it cheaper the next day again.
Where all playing a gambling game at the moment, do we pay £20 for a item today and they have it in stock or wait a few days and risk not getting it.
