http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_518285_langId_-1_categoryId_165499

or this, or anyone else got any other ideas?

I've got a 10% voucher for Halfords so that brings it down to about £340 + quidco etc.

If a mod can help with the links thank you.

I like the GT but only small I need a 20".
I know all the Halfords issues, but just really interested in spec.

The kraken is better than the GT spec wise....the forks on that GT are carp and the gears are bottom of the range....Buy the kraken you won't regret it.

The kraken is comparable to the GT XC2 the XC3's a more 0of a budget build.

Post your question on bikeradar forum and they will tell you the same thing.

Just abouit everyone?

Just a bit of an exaggeration....I weigh 15 stone and have ridden mine on Lot's of derbyshire trails and my crank is fine.

My son has an xc3 and I can tell you categorically that the kraken is the better bike.

Like I said....if OP wants an informed opinion from mountain bikers then go ask on bike radar.

Like I said, he doesn't have to take my word for it...I've posted a link to the best bike forum on the net so he can get other opinions from people in the know.

While i'm here is my Marin nail trail any good?

Only gets a 3 star review...as the fork wasn't upto the job for a bike in that price point.

Hope that helps

Looking for a road bike in the summer for around the £400 max, any suggestions please?

Well I would suggest a second hand bike, but it your looking for something new the take a look at a 2010 Raleigh Airlite 200 which you should be able to pick up for around the £400 mark.

Remember that relying on magazine review is a bit like deciding whether to like Marmite by asking someone else if they like it. The article is the reviewer's opinion. The most important opinion is yours.

Try the bikes in question, buy the one that fits and feels the best

Try a Giant Defy 4 - if there are any 2010's kncking about they'll be around that price point, They're quite long and low though, so check it suits your proportions.

Thanks Duggie_22 and arcangel111...I'm going to go to Evans cycles once I finish uni exams, the guy in there said you can pick out a few bikes and we'll set it up for you so you can try it out for 30 minutes and see what you like so I can see if a road bike is something I could get used to. They seem like a good place to get a bike from and would be helpful if I had future problems...am I right in thinking so?
