I had a free eye test with a voucher in D&A last week (saving myself 27.50) so i went back today to see what glasses i would like. I picked out frames tagged at £89. The shop assistant told me i then needed to add lenses to this price and i also wanted reaction coating. Total cost (some of you may want to sit down - i wish i'd had a chair) £240!! for 1 pair of glasses. just normal lenses aswell.
Needlesss to say i made a hasty exit and went down the high street to Specsavers. They are doing a 2 for 1 offer on all frames above £75 up to £125. The price tag on their actual glasses are for frames and lenses- unlike D&A.
I left Specsavers after ordering 2 pairs of glasses 1 pair £99 with reaction lenses an extra £49 and a spare pair at £75 with a free ultra tough coating on them.
2 pairs of glasses for £148 - Done ! Therefore saving me over £100 and I got an extra pair free.
I know- Should have gone to Specsavers in the first place!!
Have any other specs wearing people out there had the same shock i had to day?!!

Should have gone to goggles4u just under £20 with scratch resistant coating, anti glare and free tints if you want them too!

I always use asda tbh-we get a great staff deal at asda opticians but pretty certain they are about the cheapest you can get unless you use one of the online services.

I like many other spectacle wearing people like to try on glasses and compare them before looking at a picture and buying. As in the shop the was a pair i really like but when i tried them on they looked hideous!

My local asda doesn't have a spec counter.

At goggles 4u you can upload a picture of yourself and try the glasses on there like that, trouble with trying glasses on without your glasses you cant tell what the reflection looks like:whistling:

It says the "Single Vision Photocromic (Lenses that turn dark in sunlight)
Frame with 1.56 Middle Index CR lenses Photocromic (Brown or Grey)" are an extra 66.99 to add to your frames + it's from America and my glasses will be ready by monday. You can't tell from a picture what they feel like.
Anyway i was just pointing out the vast price difference between D&A and Specsavers thats all.

yeh thats right-relies on the uv from sun, most windscreens have a good uv absorber so won't work well in the car. fab for hols though-only prob is thhey tend to go darker and quicker when it's colder rather than hotter!!
had mine from asda-designer frames buy one get £75 off second pair, both with hard coat lenses-cheapest is 2 for £95.reactions were £40 on top/

I always used Specsavers until I found GlassesDirect and SpeckyFourEyes, both very reasonable for glasses.

Had my eyes lasered now though so don't need to mess around with choosing glasses anymore.

I just walked in with no appointment and had ordered my glasses paid the bill and was out of there in about 20 mins.
Good luck with your appointment. The 2 for 1 deal is really good.

You are correct - major difference between D&A and Specsavers in quality of products - both lenses and frames - my other half is a Manager for D&A

why not , they are just the same as glasses 10 times the price!, it would be good if she wore them. not much of a glasses person. only for subtitles on the tv anyway!

i ordered from iwantglasses.co.uk 7 weeks and 1 day ago, still not arrived after promised delivery etc. My experience should prompt others into using more reliable firms. perhaps they have gone bust???
