Totally up to you - but there will definitely be a 3G version out as well as a Nokia version

I love my iphone! It is the best thing I have ever bought. I know lots of people hate it and moan about various aspects but as an "all in one" device it is simply amazing - go on treat yourself!

I'd wait for the 3G version. I don't see why anyone would want to surf the net on something so slow. Or you could take the sensible approach and get the Nokia N95!!!

3g version will be out sooner rather then later, you should wait
#5
I'm hoping to wait for the 3g, also hoping its not much more money

Buy both lol i dont even use 3g so the normal one is fine for me. Its the best phone ive ever brought easily ! The browser is just awesome on it.

im in the same situation, i have the money in my bank from selling my wii, but i know the 3g version is just round the corner so holding off until i at least hear about a release date/price to make an educated decision!

As well as the Nokia "iPhone" people are talking about, Sony Ericsson will be hitting back at something pretty special too:

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

So, if you can afford to wait, then there's going to be at least three different choices later this year. And you might find that Samsung hit back with something nice too... it's going to be an interesting time!

Even if you don't want to go for any of those, they should push each others prices down a little...

only thing with the Xperia X1, though its nice looking it based on windows mobile. i have had 3 WM in the past couple of years and tend to become very sluggish after a while. Iphone all the way! :)

Apple have apparently made a deal with a 3g chip manufacturer now, and also allegedly cut back on the production of the current model to make room for a new model.

Personally is suspect the new model will be announced on June 10th at WWDC

XPERIA will have the new version of Windows Mobile: Windows Mobile 6.1.

yes I'm sure, battery life issues would delay a 3G iPhone but it seems set to appear around June along with their 2.0 firmware upgrade, also it would have been a year since the iphone was launched then also.

im currently running 6.1, it is much better than 6 but still gets a bit bogged down after a while!

Totally up to you but its probably worth noting that the 3g 'may' come out first in the States first and then we get it here a few months later.

But I would say whatever Nokia and SE come out with they will still fall short of the capabilities of an iPhone. But then again I might be a little biased. (sent from my iPhone)

although hey dont get me wrong the xperia looks s### hot and if the iphone doesnt gain MMS, the ability to send files through bluetooth by the time it comes out i'll probably get that rather than the 2nd Gen iPhone

Buy the iphone. I'm known as 'gadget man' by anyone who knows me and I've had various Nokia's, xda exec, htc etc and the iphone is the best ever. It's easy to use, robust, and the ipod features excellent. I have downloaded movies on to it and with the component lead, use it to show the movies on my HD TV - excellent! The movies are DVD quality and sound superb. I use the ipod all the time and the wifi is useful for 'surfing' the internet. The camera is very good, games good, interface brilliant. It truly is a brilliant bit of kit but like everything, better will be around th corner, however if you wait you will not have the joy of using the equipment only to looking forward to the next big thing (which never comes). I got mine and it is jailbroken so I can use a better tarriff for the phone and there is a really easy (free) way to jailbreak it now which only take 2 mins. So buy and enjoy:-D.

Really depends on your usage, if you're wanting to browse the internet quite a bit on the move then waiting for a 3G Iphone seems a much better idea. If you're looking for more functionality than that though you may be better looking at a smartphone instead.

Yes, at least as far back in December in the form of the Q9.

Have to say I'm not much of a fan of Windows Mobile, the main issue for me being the lack of integration - despite the fact dedicated PDAs are pretty much extinct WM6 still feels like a PDA operating system with a phone tacked onto the back. I'm disappointed SE are using WM6 rather than UIQ although I can appreciate why, I think Symbian works well for smartphones in both its UIQ and S60 forms and look forward to Nokia producing a new touch screen based version using Symbian. However I'm hoping it's not going to go the more fashion orientated route of the Iphone and instead aim for functionality although I'm guessing the former is the target.

Ahhh, nice. :)

Get the iPhone now, otherwise it's a case of constantly chasing your tail waiting for the next new thing to come out...and realistically, do you want to be waiting a MINIMUM of 6 months for a 3g version to come to the UK?
Also, the Sony and Nokia devices mentioned aren't going to be out until the end of this year, so you could be waiting a while...
Or you could just do like I did and get the Nokia N82 - great phone! ;)

Is 6.1 available as a free upgrade from 6.0?

Thanks for everyone's opinions. Think i might just bite the bullet and get it.

I got rid of my N95 for the iphone, I only wish I did it sooner.

If your on o2 then you can migrate your contract across, including number (mine did it instanlty, but can take upto 3 days) but i didnt have to pay anything off for my old £65 pm contract and now down to £35 pm, im actually making money on this deal!!!

people who dont like the lack of mms should check out 3rd party apps, theres already a guy whos developed this web based feature on the O2 iphone forum, although I can see this being on the next fw update.

Personally I'd buy it now, people who are saying they dont wanna browse the net so slowly should take into account the 7500 free cloud wifi networks they can join, not to mention their own wifi network, basically i cant think of that many situations where you'd need to download a lot of data through your phone where you dont have access to a wifi network.

the iPhone requires a very particular connector for the headphones, because of where the headphone socket is...so a lot of traditional L-Shaped sockets wont work

Yes, at least as far back in December in the form of the Q9.

OK, I'n happy to admit that you may have meant Windows Mobile 6 here but Windows Mobile 6.1 hasn't officially been announced by Microsoft yet, so it's definitely not Windows Mobile 6.1 you are using and which I suggested would be much improved!! :)

Again, it's not been announced (if it wasn't for the fact that the XPERIA demonstrators accidentally showed it off then we wouldn't even know it was in development). It sounds like there will be a *LOT* of changes, so I'm not entirely sure. I presume it will be announced very soon if Sony Ericsson are planning on releasing a phone with it as early as the summer...

There's suggestions that Microsoft will announce WM6.1 on April 1st, but these could obviously be untrue. :)
