Should I ring Dell?

Okay, I know this sounds really picky, but its really bugging me. I have a Dell Vostro 1000, and on the right monitor hinge is the In green, anyway, The past week or two, the black around it has been rubbing off, and now i'm just left with 3 LED lights, no images telling me what they do, I know it doesnt cause any problems, but i dont really think this is acceptable. I didnt buy this knowing that it was going to wear itself after what, 5 weeks of owning it?

Do you reckon its worth call

I'd give 'em hell, a fault's a fault even if it is only aesthetic. But then I'm really pedantic about things like that.

It's just really annoying, looking where a powersign would normally be and its just a green blob.

I would ring them i like all my stuff in MINT condition specially computer related stuff
#4

got to be worth a call.

I would ring them too.

They've sold you goods not as advertised and not fit for purpose.

Be polite but firm they should send someone out to you, possibly...

schizoboy, not wishing to sound picky, but the monitor is still fit for purpose - the fact that some images have rubbed off doesn't mean that it now can't be used as a monitor.

That said, rubbing off after only 5 weeks???? I'd phone them & ask nicely for a replacement.

Basically, if i just rub my finger over it really smoothly, i get black paint on my finger. That shouldnt happen

I'm the one being picky, and imo, thats unacceptable quality for an item still within it's 12months warranty.

Consumer law is quite strong and specific about this, just most people do not use it.

If he cannot tell what those LED's and future LEDs are for, it's not fit for purpose as it was advertised imo.

The discount/part refund idea does sound good though if thats the only problem.

Okay, Rang them up suprisingly got through straight away. Anyway, the guy was very understanding and asked me if i could replace it myself if he sent me the part, I was able to take the hinge etc off, replace it without damaging the casing, so he's sending me the part to be delivered tomorrow.

A* Customer service from Dell :)

Hah A* I think not - they are not supposed to ask consumers to do repairs! Not after 5 weeks! A business customer perhaps, but that is taking the biscuit. I hope they offered you some cash back as well. If not send em a bill for labour charges!

To be honest all i want is it to be fixed.

I got £40 out of them because i said i didnt want vista.

So thats all good for me.

Although, if it's something simple, I'd much rather fit it myself than have my computer taken away for a few days then have to wait around for it to be delivered again.

Dell come and fix it for you at your house.

I thought it was normally collect and return?

Anyway, just be glad you're getting the part at all. ;-) My Dell monitor - which has a 3 year Next Business Day warranty - is faulty and has so far taken 2 months and counting to be replaced.

They finally set a date last fridat when my new one would be delivered - then decided not to turn up.
#20
Yeah, im glad, like i said earlier, I really dont mind replacing it myself, as long as its easy. Learning something there :P
#21
i believe the vostro's came with 1year business warranty not the home user collect and return

Give us hell for anything, and the call recording gets played to a couple of managers who'll decide whether or not to cancel the service contract. Not all customers are worth keeping.

If you're going to call, don't be a dick.

And Tomm - aye, go for it. By the sounds of it, it's just the bezel, and one of our chaps will happily send out a new one. You might be asked to fit it yourself, but that'll only take a few seconds (just pop the old one off and pop the new one in, 'tis easy), and you won't need to send the old one back or anything.
#23
Yeah it was the bezel. And they asked me if i wanted to fit it myself- so i said sure.

Dxx they say their shipping it tomorrow, but i realised no ones going to be in.

Will i be able to rearrange it for monday delivery if no one is in tomorrow

You don't need to open up the laptop to take the bezel off, It just pops off and clicks back on again.
