Not sure if this has been discussed before (I'm sure it has!). What with new members signing up and immediately offering a brand new iPhone for £500 or PS3/Xbox 360's etc., do you think it would be worth them having say a minimum of 10 posts before they are allowed to sell anything?

Or maybe a certain amount of feedback to sell something over £50 say?

Thoughts?

minimum 200 post count to sell anything imo

sounds good to me seen a lot of FS/ft posts with new users selling high end goods, some of them locked/expired

post count wouldnt make much difference.. someone could make 10 random comments doesnt make them a trusted seller
#3
nope, blah blah blah read and obide by the rules and you will be fine, blah blah blah (millions of posts saying this coming your way dude)

i have asked this question myself i think something needs to be done with respect to people joining and straight away try and sell something for 100's of pounds member for 3 months maybe
#5
Has been discussed /suggested about half way through this thread (amongst other things) but no response from mods yet
#6
but then we will just get newbies saying random things to get their posts up....you can post every 5 seconds or something cant you? So what is that 50 seconds (10 posts) going to change exactly???....might be a better idea to have a min rep instead of posts...
#7
Not much point in post count, they could just start a thread at 4am and just add 10 posts. Most people get round the no feedback issue by making the new person send first, seems to work fine.

it would make a difference if it was a 1000 posts and max rep to show you have been a decent member

they arent going to have any chance of selling unless they mail first anyway. unless they find someone very stupid.

No, lots of peeps simply post in the word games etc to boost their post count, it means nothing.

Whatever your post count is, or however long you've been a memeber shouldn't mean bo' diddly, if the rules are followed then all should be well:thumbsup:

agreed but we all now its not as simple as that and still threads appear asking what the mods can do because they have been ripped off
banned#11
just do what the rules say, and you wont have a problem
#12
i just wont buy of a new seller unless they are willing to post first
#13
everyone has to start somewhere....

If I was inclined to spend £500 on an item being sold by someone with zero feedback then I would want the item posted first or to meet if they lived near.

If they find that unacceptable then I just wouldnt buy it and if there arent alarm bells ringing in your head no matter how much of a bargain the item is and you still go ahead and pay upfront and are robbed then you deserve to have your money took from you.

More money than sense I say.

Like I say follow the rules:thumbsup:

This topic is always discussed, it doesn't stop people people making the same mistakes time and time again, if you have doubts don't buy, quite simple.

If people choose to pay by paypal gift, BT, then they should think wisely before doing so and get the sellers full details, if they don't, sorry, but that's their problem.

I've never had a problem on the FS/FT section, apart from the time when I got a bit greedy and made the mistake of paying by BT for what seemed to be a must have bargain, without getting the sellers full details, I lost my money, I didn't whinge about it, it was my mistake:) Lesson learned;-)

well,I have only 10 feedback-was happy to mail first in every instance and will continue to do so for a while but ONLY if the buying member has good feedback-ripoffs can go both ways-luckily had no problems so far.

Like others have said there's no point having lots of 'posts' against your name. It doesn't make you a trusted seller.
To be honest I wouldn't purchase from anyone on here myself, as it seems Ebay already offers this service and is far more established.
Ebay rules are that you never send goods without having received payment even if seller has a low rating - everyone has to start somewhere. You just wouldn't purchase a high value item off someone who has a low rating.
Likewise I wouldn't try selling on here either as I have already built up a reputation on Ebay and wouldn't see the need to start from scratch on another site.

Also along with the 200 post count, you must be registered for atleast a year. This will stop scammers BIG TIME.
#23
This has been discussed many times in feedback - here's one example....
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/452211/call-for-stricter-rules-on-first-ti/showthread.php?t=452211&page=2

The idea wouldn't work the scammers would find a way round it.

True. And post count (as has been said I know) has nothing to do with whether you're trustworthy or not. I don't sell as I don't have a camera now so haven't got feedback on here but I DO have 100% feedback on ebay. I feel I am trustworthy (buying AND selling) but it has nothing to do with my post count. :)

Ok, i'll go with the year thing as long as it reads : Must be registered for at least a year FROM the day the rule comes in :p
#28
A clever scammer would register on lots of sites, make some posts leave it a little while, sell some cheap items get a little bit of feedback then sell a couple of high value items, keep the money and dissappear.....

Use your commensense and if in doubt don't buy.
#29
If you pay by PayPal (NOT gift) though aren't you covered if you don't get the item?

That's the whole point, people still pay for goods to new members DESPITE warnings from established members here...

I disagree. There are some genuine people, I have only been a member since March, I havn't scammed anyone.

The rules are there for a reason, if you follow them no-one should get scammed at all.

doesn't make a difference, one and only time I and others got scammed the guy had semi decent feedback, full rep and over 1000 posts.

as above follow the rules and it will minimise the risk of getting scammed.

post counts etc mean virtually nadda.
