Should we celebrate HUKD members birthdays

I was just thinking that it was Emma's birthday recently and she's been so great to this forum, that it would of been great if we could all donate a little bit of spare change and collectively buy them (whoevers birthday it is) a present that they've been after as a thank you for all the great deals/help they've provided as a token of our appreciation, what does everyone think?

P.S it's my birthday next wednesday :giggle:

Sorry...

Good idea, but would be difficult to organise....

Also, who decided who gets something and who doesnt - there are 30,000+ members.....

I would love to contribute to some birthday gifts on here, as i've saved so much money because of this forum (or spent too much money because there's so many good deals, depends how you want to see it) :p and would love to show my appreciation, sometimes more than just a simple thank you..... not in a dirty way of course :giggle:

Well, maybe the top 100 regulars could receive a donation or someone that you personally feel has benefitted to the forum, or maybe even the moderators should only receive gifts since they help us all the time and work night and day to keep the forums in good health. :-D

I'm sorry but no way, as this is and will be open to abuse.

Personally, I would be happy with members wishing me a happy birthday - but if this was started then I would probably donate (depending on how it was organised, who for etc)

Maybe someone could design a B'Day card and could be sent to members on their birthday - from all your friends at HUKD

There are too many people on this forum, practically every day is someones birthday. Even if you only include the "regulars" then there's enough people on here to bankrupt me if I started to buy presents :)
#8
great idea in principle but wouldnt work imo, think it'll be nice just to get the wishes in a thread :)

Why just the top 100?

This is just a nice idea but would never work

well said!

i dont even buy for all my 'real' friends, the kids cost me enough! lol

Lol I voted yes but looks like I am the only one other than OP

I said yes because if it was organised then I would donate, but dont really think it SHOULD be organised. Too difficult and I think it is unneccesary

Hehe, i hear you mate, but what i actually mean is you contribute to whoever you want and by however much you want e.g if you can only spare £2 for someones birthday and another 50 people contribute a similar payment, then there's already over a £100 gift for someone special, which just started from £2 but based on the great deals regularily posted on here, even a colective small amount could buy a nice gift that would give that special someone a warm feeling inside.

I really think this idea could workout, we just need to put some more thought behind it and come on now, if you gave up £2 between the friends you've made on here over a year it wouldn't only workout pennies per day, which is a lot less than the money and time they've saved you.

I personally think it's impractical... and if we start giving to some it's not fair on others.. plus what if they don't like it? Who deserves more cash?
£2 might not be a huge amount but for even a dozen a year soon adds up.. I don't spend much on all the helpful people I know in real life.. not going to do it online. If you want to send a specially close friend a gift - go for it.. paypal em a couple of quid, and if everyone does the same so be it they get a nice gift.
The deals themselves are a gift - think of all the savings some of us make, and the apology vouchers on misprices and the like.

i think it would be more hassle than its worth. imagine if one person contributes about £1 to 50 different people's birthday (which is £50 in total - it all adds up) and gets about £10 on their birthday. that person would be peeved off.

and i agree this is open to a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge amount of abuse.

i buy presents for my family, that's about it. most people seem to stop buying birthday presents for people other than family & v close friends around the time they leave school / uni.
#16
not a great idea, some could say why stop at birthdays...easter eggs....christenings...births...engagements...weddings...retirements...passed tests...xmas...get my drift :)
#17
yip. i get your drift.
#18
I say no, except when it's my B'day :giggle:

Well, they can't abuse the system, as when someone signs up, they'll have there birthday date set up or you can even checkout there profile to see the dates but you'd only do it for your close friends or people that you feel has been good to you.

I know some of you have said that you wouldn't want to hand out £50 between all your online friends to only receive £10 back in return but at the end of the day, when i buy gifts for people that i feel deserve it, i don't expect their gift to be more valuable, it's the thought that counts and like i said, you could donate as much as you want, weather it's £100 or just £0.10p, it all adds up and i think would be a great way to show how much some people on here mean to us. :)

Noo sorry as much as I appreciate everyone on here I have enough to pay out for at home !! I think a simple 'Happy Birthday' from people that don't 'know' you is more than enough we could all send cyber gifts seen as this is an internet forum :-D

im sure everyone understands the sentiment behind it but its just not practical, if you feel strongly theres nothing stopping you from doing so yourself, but alot of members especially myself shop through here to save pennies cos things are tight at home, even 50 birthdays at £2 a throw is £100 to me that will cover my childrens birthday pressies, a nice thought tho :-D
#23
just in case its my birthday in may that should give you enough time to collect loads of money :pirate:(rubs hands together and smiles):pirate:

Sorry. i voted as a no. Getting a thread of Happy birthday wishes with kind thoughts behind them is just as nice as a present. I think everyone on the forum is really busy and have their own financial commitments. Where would it end? If it was contributing to the top 50/100 advice givers - even at 1.00 a throw, that's quite a squeeze over year. Who would be nominated to buy these gifts anyway? Do we know enough about a members likes and dislikes to buy a good gift?
#25
I voted yes because it's my birthday on the 20th, am after a router...or a DS game, nintendogs. Thanks.

:P

Nah, just kidding...like others have mentioned how do you decide who gets something and who doesn't and it would be pretty hard to organise, nice thought...but not really appropriate :)

I don't think this is a great idea... there's always going to be someone's birthday on a site like this, and we have so many helpful members there would be a huge problem with selecting who'd actually get presents.
