Should we have to go to work in the snow?

i have a 20 min walk to work... took me over an hour yesterday to walk home...

that was a scarey experience, i walked down the main road, cars skidding even at a slow pace....
i didnt feel safe, especially seeing cars trying to turn into side roads...the skidded round...i felt in danger even on the pavement...

we had buses over turn in local town, all buses thn cancelled...

todays is worse...the snow foze overnight and is now like an ice rink...roads & pavements..

my kids are off school...but i have to go in tomorrow as can't afford not too...but boy is it risky....

what are ur views?

should the goverenment set help aside for us workers in this weather?
or should we just have to risk it?

i love snow...but not when its frozen solid and you see and hear cars crashing, even at a slow slow pace...BTW our roads haven't been gritted for 4 days

i have a duty to be at work even in inclement weather, so I suppose its what you do for a job tbh

snow isnt an excuse you could always get a taxi if worse comes to worse.

+1.

Think of russia, canada, of course they're used to it, but it doesnt stop them getting from A to B.

It makes me laugh when people think that if a bit of snow falls we should all get the day off work! Imagine if they did the same thing in Iceland, Moscow or Alaska - nobody would ever get anything done!

If you are scared about an ice rink... learn to ice skate ;-)

Go and build a snowman and relive your youth! (When you have finished work!)

cheaper to loose a days pay...our taxis are charging £60 min fare as roads so dangerous and all buses are off:thinking:

Ah I feel for those on exercise in basic right now :p

If people didnt have to work because of the snow, where would you draw the line? Doctors have the same journeys as people working at asda

I think if its possible to do your job from home, then it would be wise too, but other than that there isnt much choice in the matter
#17
i guess if everyone wanted to stay home we really would be in trouble

They're worse, they get a little warmth, some ice melting and they're off to Copenhagen demanding money and blaming everyone else.

 Most of the roads are fine, it depends what you do I think. If you work for something the public need then there should be no excuse. Your basic office job i'd be at home, but most companies allow you to work at home nowadays anyway

Its only snow FFS....walk, it might do you good

I agree. OP - Grow up and live your life. There is no reason at all not to goto work - and it was pretty bad here.

i'll admit though i didnt enjoy my walk to and from work today, nearly toppled over a few times, each time checking there was no one h=behind me

not so bad whilst fresh and still falling - dreading when it gets icy :x

What would you like the government to do for you?

We start work at 5am, get as much done as we can then invariably get sent home at around 10. At least we try.
#31
world cant come to a stop cause of snow
#32
I was belly down in snow yesterday jointing a telephone cable, was bloody freezing. But in the summer it's great.
#33
Blimey!!! You get a bit of snow and everyone panics!! How would you like it if you had a heart attack, got to hospital and they said "well everyone's off 'cos of the snow so you'll just have to die"! Walking about in a bit of snow isn't exactly risking your life! My bf goes after people with guns and knives and puts his life at risk everyday, but you don't see him asking if he REALLY has to go to work!!! This country needs to man up and learn that it's going to snow every year and to be prepared! It's not like it was out of the blue and has never happened before!

I hear crimed phoned in today as well, its also taken the day off.............

I work 18 miles from work, I work from 5 in the morning, I spent over 1 hour today digging the car out of the drive and then couldnt get down the road because of the snow/ice.

How would a taxi help?

and If it could help, how much would it cost for me to go 18 miles and then 18 miles back?

Its just not worth it, also if i crash my car, the excess is £300, I only earn about £70 per day, Is it worth risking?
#37
postie...all delivered, customers well chuffed to get their parcels.....say no more!!!
#38
maybe if the country was prepared, we wouldn't even be asking ppls opinions on this..
#39
So you don't think you should go to work but you're complaining that the roads haven't been gritted....you're not a gritter lorry driver are you?!! ;-)
