Following on from something i spotted in another thread, should you bring your kid up as a vegetarian from a young age just because you are?

Should boys wear blue and girls wear pink?
#8

#9
Is this a carrot or stick question?
#10
Yes .... for the sake of their health and the planet.
banned#11

#12
i agree....no .... not unless it was something religious or cultural.
banned#13
Of course you shouldn't.

Kids need meat in their diet to grow up big and strong.

Can't be bothered :p

If you are veggie then give the children what you have, educate them and when they are old enough (about aged 8) let them choose when out of the house, say at friends houses or parties etc. I don't see why a veggie should be made to prepare meat for children, but they must make sure the child gets protien from other sources.

Could give them protein shakes and iron tablets

I think that we are omnivores - teeth, dietary requirements, guts - but I don't really care if Vegetarian parents provide proper meals for their children whether those meals contain animals or not.

Lots of people actually don't like meat so don't include it in their diets and TBH there is a whole lot of stupidity talked about what should/not be in a balanced diet IMO.

I deliberately started a new thread, mentioned no threads or names so thee wouldn't be no arguments

I;m not asking for advice on how to raise kids, i haven't even got any, it's just that a few people feel the need to push their lifestyle onto their children, and not getting any nutrition from meat based products.

As you have now brought it up, M2C&C, do you wish to expand on your comments?

im interested in this making meat business you have:p

Well, humans are omnivores, so we are designed to eat from both meat and plant sources.
Therefore cutting one of those out of the equation is not a good idea.

I was a vege for 3 years, but went back as it sucked.

If you have kids then they should be allowed to eat meat in your house or not. And yes you SHOULD have to prepare it. they are your kids. You are the parent. You cant ban a child from having theyre own choices. Well as far as veggie or meat goes.
see lulusmammy has the right idea.

I agree with what that member put.

It does not matter. Until they are gillick competent it is your decision as their parent.

me too... but i got no idea what it tastes like, i only go by the smell & looks.

as Dara O'Briain says 'why put meat on animals if they aren't to be eaten'

as frankie boyle says 'i have a veggie option, f*** off'

both arguments that add weight i feel!

But in your case it wasn't buying a preparing meat, it was a tiny tiny amount of meat product in a milk powder that stopped you. Why?

what if they refuse to cross.......would you force them?
#31
No, i'd never consider forcing my children to be vegetarians. If they decide at a later age that they want to be a vegetarian that's fine but until then it's not my choice to make especially when you consider the possible health problems.

For example (I know it's vegans but it's similar)

Yes because I was their parent and stronger.

Because it makes them feel sick! Don't get me wrong, if my kids really wanted to try a burger then I'd let them ( they are 11, 8 and 5 and have all tried meat, they just accept its not what we have at home), I just couldn't handle meat products myself and I don't think it is an essential part of any bodies diet.

Exactly. People who use the word "force" are misguided. It is not against the childs will as they are not able to form their own opinion/choice.

Everyone brings up their children the way they think they should.

Some people are religious therefore take their children to church etc...
#40
This is silly... if your a good parent you just do what you think is best for your child...and we all have different views...as long as the child is happy and healthy what does it matter?
