See post #1 for calendar information.

This is the place to post your very own photos of hols, scenes, skies and all things of interest. Accompanying descriptions and information, plus general photography chat are very welcome ( but not so keen on 'just chat').
All the new camera owners --- get your pics in here. Pics from phones, point and shoots, bridge cameras, and D/SLRs - post them here and tell us about them. There's hardly anything as good as seeing that one in a hundred pic on your screen and we love them all
This is our 4th year of 'the photo thread' but we love to see pics by new people so please don't be shy. If your pic is pro quality then ...brilliant .... but if it's a phone pic of your much loved dog then that's brilliant as well.

Have a look at post #1 if you're not sure how to post pics. Please resize before uploading (see post #2) so that your pic isn't too wide.

Monthly theme & competition: the theme for December is LIGHT.
There are RULES:

Post as many pics as you like on the theme in the thread during the month, as well as any other photos, of course.

Theme pics posted anytime during the month but only ONE comp pic, of choice, posted on 'Judgement Day'.
The competiton entry photo must be one taken during December. Post pic for competition on the 28th December.
Vote by max of 3 likes per voter. Anyone can vote, no more than one like for each of 3 photos. Voting is on 29th December and only 29th December votes will count.
Winner sends the full res pic to become the December 2012 calendar photo and chooses the theme for January.

Hi Everyone,

The calendar (2012) is now complete and available for all to download - here is the link -
https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=6bec72ffbca399ae&resid=6BEC72FFBCA399AE!249&parid=6BEC72FFBCA399AE!101&authkey=!g1nvkXRssP8%24

I've just tested the link from this post and it works fine.

Don't forget to download from the full size pics. and not the thumbnails (it has happened in the past).

The files uploaded enable 3 different styles of calendar to be created by printing out the appropriate pages plus one cover each for landscape and portrait mode calendars. For those fitting together the full-page grids with full-page pics. the filenames on the pics. will give the clue as to which month they represent. The pages have been designed to print out on A4 but any size of paper can be used although it is best to maintain the aspect ratio. A3, A4, A5 are all the same aspect ratio just different overall sizes. Best results will be obtained using photo paper which has a glossy surface for the pics. and a matte side for the grids (where separate grids/pics are used). For those pages where grid and picture sit on the same side glossy paper will give the best results. You can use any paper but the results may look a little dull on ordinary or matte paper.

For those wanting to have an online service print the calendar just upload the full page pics. plus the appropriate cover (13 files in total) and the company will add their own grids. I have used Vistaprint in the past and been pleased with the result - there are, of course, a number of other companies that will print calendars and in all cases they come properly bound, ready to hang, which can be quite useful even if a little pricey. Some services are offering discounts at the moment.

I think that's all I need to pass on for you to be able to print this bespoke calendar. Credit to each photographer is given underneath each picture.

word on resizing:
You can custom resize in photoshop and other editing software and photobucket etc have resizing, otherwise you can download a resizer.

This is good for windows but not W7 compatible

Very bright and sharp - nice ones. Can you tell me Emma what you use to do the frames? The dice one especially is really set off nicely.

MM - no judgements in here - quite a few of us are products of the 60's!! ;)

Depends i think on what software you use for editing pictures. But i know in photoshop or paint.net you can use the 'image' menu at the top and alter the canvas size. Select what colours you want the borders and resize your image as required, making sure the anchor point is in the centre (so it spreads around the picture evenly) quite simple after you do it the first time.

Chesso.. Those Orchids are great value, aren't they? We're hardly ever without a flower on one or the other of ours. Nice pics.

Emma.. Love your photos..very professional.

Thanks Scoff, appreciated.
I have photoshop elements and so I had mooch around following your suggestions. In fact, I failed and then did 'Help' so I have managed to do a couple of frames but I think it must get easier with time.

I would say it has slipped whilst being stacked upside down and then clung there!

Nice first goes, Joe - the moors are looking orange!! Like flumpy says - have a go with some free photo-editing software.

Flump - that robin is a favourite of everyone on here I think; it certainly brings a smile to my face.

Travelchic - I hope that we are to see many more of your photos. Do you travel a lot?
I would like to see them bigger - same size as the Robin pic.

Hoppy New Year to you as well kippy. :D

Chesso, that's it, but don't forget you can change colours and add as many boarders as you like and make them a different thickness depending on how big you increase the canvas

Here is your pic with a few different colours and thickness borders. Not saying this works lol but just showing what you can do very easily, hope you don't mind.

Chesso- I use Picnik for frames. Also use it for a bit of editing.
Think it costs about £4 a month BUT there are loads of free things on it you can use including some frames so worth a check out.
Hope this helps.

Here is an example using before and after. I just brightened your piccy.(hope you dont mind) Ignore frame as i didnt do that:

On the contrary Scoff, I am very much appreciative ! I can see that there are plenty of possibilities from the example. I will have to spend some time on it. Thank You.

Chesso, I use PaintShopPro, and it's sooo easy to add frames or borders with it.
Do you have an option for "add border" as opposed to "add frame"..?? Might be easier.
Love the photo.. Must be one from Madeira....A Eucomis I think. Easy to grow E. bicolor here.

Emma !! Three months ???? Is that as a full time photographer ? Must be, your photos really do stand out from our "snaps" on here. Keep 'em coming.

I work as a Freelance Make-Up Artist so attend alot of weddings and just get tips from "Pro" Togs mainly.

It is!! It was growing in the Governor's garden and the colour is simply gorgeous. If I'd have known it would grow here, I would have tried to get one! They had quite a few stalls along the main road in the 'Christmas Fair'.
Frames/borders - I'll look at that as well... Paint Shop Pro - is it free??? You know I think I'll have to concentrate first on how to take an OK pic - crawl before I run!!! I thought there might be a freebie where you just click on a frame and it does it!!
