Shower timer

Does anyone know of a device I can fit onto the shower that will cut the water off after a certain amount of time? with a house full of teenagers that refuse to get out of the shower until all the hot water in the tank is used up and after screaming at them to get out and turning myself into a grumpy old man before my time.. I'm beginning to think there must be a better way.

I've tried a search on the Internet and there is an American company doing the exact thing I'm talking about but it looks like the idea is pretty popular over there too as they have sold out.. try googling "shower manager" to see what I'm talking about... or is there another way?

Got to agree with you on the looks..kind of like something on a camp site - it's an Australian web site so not much use anyway...

Thanks for looking though

Welcome sul

The power switch would just turn it from a power shower to a normal shower and as the water is already heated I don't thnik it would have the desired effect.. they would still stay in there till all the hot water was gone.. what I really want is something to do the job for me so that I know they are only getting a 6 - 8 minute shower even if I'm not there to screeam at them - you'd of thought in this energy saving and water conservation time there would be something on the market

You can fit a relay timer to your pressure pump if that is how it is supplied with water. If it's gravity fed, then you have no chance of anything other than a complicated solenoid valve arrangement. if your shower is electric, then it isn't fed from a hot water tank in any case. if it is it's illegal.

car battery + 2 wires ........ place wire ends in shower tray when 3 minutes are up connect to battery :)
result = quick shower exit :)

oh i so want a shower manager!! if yours are like mine they switch it on and then brush their teeth-get towels-go to the toilet etc before showering so its running for 5 minutes without anyone in it..the girls are worse cos they shave legs in there :(

Remove lock from door. When time is up, go into the shower beside them. I'd think that would do the trick! If not, start singing and washing your parts with a flourish.

You can get free 3 minute timers from here, if that's any help.
Push the eco-angle and think about bribery!

y dont you put a lock on the bathroom door so that if they keep doing it then you tell them they cant have a shower for so many days until they start abiding by your rules?

Are you running the Big Brother house?

The ingenous ideas in this thread are CRACKING me up!! YOu lot are just so funny without even knowing it!

I can only empathise with all of you - as I have exactly the same issue too... Lets not even GO into the "Whay do you have to have the bath overflowing" subject!

Laughing very loudly!!

My other half is terrible, he spens an age in the shower, i'm not joking if he has had afew beers the night before, he takes a cup of tea in with him and sits down just letting the water fall over him, there have been times when I have gone out and he has rang me using his mobile from the shower. He goes to football twice a week and has a shower when he gets back and many a time I have he dinner is cold by the time he gets out because he spends so long in there. It puts me in a bad mod just thinking about it.

u all probably dont wanna know but i made my OH and i do this to save more water. when we have had a bath, we leave the water in the bath for half a day or so. after doing a pee why waste water flushing (we have a bag in the cistern but cant afford converting the cistern to one that does halfs as well). i know my mate uses a brick but he lives in a cottage and we live in a tiny flat in london where things are less robust.

so we simply re-use the bath water and a medium-sized bucket to pour it down the loo after a pee. of course this will probably not work if you had kids and takes some self-discipline just because the first thing you wanna do right after the bath is pull that plug.

i was told however, not to re-use water to pour it into the cistern as it does retreat into the water system (whatever that means but i don't really want to know lol).

we also re-use the water to clean the bath before using clean water to wash it all down again.
