Just seen the film "The cove" which is truly shocking.

The Cove exposes the slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises in Taiji, Japan every year, and how their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan and other parts of Asia, often labeled as whale meat. The majority of the world is not aware this is happening as the Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. The focus of the Social Action Campaign for The Cove is to create worldwide awareness of this annual practice as well as the dangers of eating seafood contaminated with mercury and to pressure those in power to put an end to the slaughter.

And its been working. The film has been making waves since it premiered last year. Critical praise and audience awards worldwide have focused international attention on Taiji and the annual dolphin drives off the coast of Japan. Under intense pressure, Taiji called for a temporary ban on killing bottlenose dolphins. The film, which was originally rejected, was shown at the Tokyo Film Festival due to public outcry. Residents in Taiji are being tested for mercury poisoning, and for the first time Japanese media are covering the issue.

Close to a million people have signed on to the campaign, but this is just the beginning. The fisherman are clearly rattled, but havent stopped killing dolphins.

I would have posted a picture but feel it may be far too graphic for some.

I love dolphins and don't think they should do this, but:

I doubt Japan will listen to a UK petition and we can't really control what other countries do, we don't controle the world.
#4
all done :)
#5
Tasty.
#6
Why, because dolphins are "cute"?

Would the UK respond to a Hindu petition, to stop killing hundreds of thousands of cows each year??

Vote the film 10/10 so more people can see it?
Wouldn't you like people to actually see the film before voting it 10/10?

japan couldnt care less if the petition gets a billion signatures Im afraid-this is part of their culture and they dont see anything wrong with it.

I will check this movie out but I wont be voting 10/10 for a movie I havent seen-kinda defeats the purpose of imdb methinks

I thought that at least one thread might bypass the usual trolls. I guess not. Just jog on if it doesnt interest you (the title was quite clear).

actually you are completely wrong! This slaughter only happens in one village in a blind cove away from public eyes. Most of the villagers are unaware it is happening and people on the streets on Tokyo were interviewed and none of them believed it was happening.

The dolphins are caught for aquariums around the world and the discarded ones are slaughtered in a blind cove and then sold as whale meat (tests confirm it contains 2000 times the maximum safe limit of mercury). The film-makers had to plan and execute an operation Jason Bourne would of been proud of.

Just watch the film and judge for yourself or just ignore this thread and move on

I was interested, hence I read the OP, not just the title.
You advise people to manipulate the ratings system for political reasons.

No, I advise people to manipulate the ratings system for the good of dolphin welfare. At the end of the day, I cant see how anyone would give it a score less than 10/10 (unless you're a dolphin killer). Anyway, just dont vote - simples :-D

I thought the rating system was there to score the film, not the "cause"?
Let's say the Japanese government actually care what we think, all they would do is put a link to the dishonest actions you are advising us to do, and it will be decredited.

(In a Japanese accent)"See, the west started a petition, and it was full of people who hadn't even seen the film voting for it 10/10". We no listen".

Calling people "Dolphin killers" for not voting is the sort of thing i'd expect from a Prime minister intent on going to war on flawed ideas/logic.

Is that the Red Sea?

Quite shocking, I love dolphins and would personally hate to see them slaughtered, The same as whales. But if it's cultural then who are we to dictate? We raise and kill Cows, Chickens, Pigs and fish etc..

Seems like the OP thinks anyone who doesn't agree with what he says 100% is a troll or a dolphin murderer.

Kinda pathetic.
