can anyone recommend any simple food ideas, just basic half an hour stuff with a couple of ingredients.
I just fancied making a few things this week, but am not the best chef in the world.
Remember, keep them basic and simple, cheers.

One of the easiest things to make - takes 20 minutes and thats including the cooking
Either
Sweet Scones
or cheese Scones - great toasted

self raising flour mix in butter - i use clover
mix together to fine breadcrumbs - takes less than a minute

add 1 egg
AND Sugar if sweet cones required and cheese (grated weith salt and black pepper if cheese scones)

mix add a little milk
consistency should be quite firm - enought to just pick up and break off and put into yorkshire pudding dishes
makes about 12 with 5 cups of flour and about 100 grams clover

Thanks Gerbil, might give one of those bars a go, they don't look like the nicest things in the world, but i'm sure you wouldn't recommend them if they didn't taste nice.

Foolproof authentic pasta - you won't taste better! Anywhere!
Takes 15 minutes max.
You need, for 2 people;
Tablespoon of olive oil, clove of garlic, 1 tin of (chopped) tomatoes, good pinch dried basil, good pinch dried oregano, salt and pepper. 300g penne pasta. Grated parmesan to serve

Method;

Put a large saucepan of water on to boil

Meanwhile, crush, peel and chop garlic.

In a large frying pan (or saucepan) heat oil

Add chopped garlic and then tinned tomatoes to oil and stir

When warm, add the herbs and stir

Add a good pinch of pepper and stir.

Bring tomato sauce to the boil

Cover the tomato sauce with a lid, reduce heat and simmer

By now water will be boiling. Add a large pinch of salt

Add the pasta and let the water come back to the boil

Let the pasta boil for 1 minute less than it says on the packet

Grate parmesan

Just before draining the pasta, take out a ladle of the pasta water and add it to the sauce.

Taste sauce and adjust seasoning

Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce while it is still on the heat

Toss the pasta in the sauce to mix (or stir if using a saucepan)

Serve immediately in warmed bowls and sprinkle parmesan over it

A light Italian red wine like Valpolicella goes well with this

Enjoy!

Some good 'Monday' meals (ie post sunday roast using the left over meat)

1) Chicken pie - simple white sauce with chicken pieces and use a square of puff pastry ontop instead of mashed potato to make a change
2) Cottage pie - mince the leftover beef or lamb and make a simple cottage pie or...
3) Spaghetti bolognaise

Other simple tasty things:

Pasta with roasted vegetables - cut veggies like red pepper, carrot, courgette, tomato, onion... put into a roasting dish, add olive oil, salt and pepper, shove in oven for half an hour or so. Cook pasta and plonk ontop. Or have with couscous. Or mashed potato.

Spaghetti carbonara - panchetta tastes better than bacon in my opinion.

White fish like cod, roast it with mozarella and tomatoes and basil.

Hope one of them takes your fancy.

Cheesy Beanos

Under grill, toast one side of bread in the mean time cook 2-3 tablespoons of baked beans per slice, turn bread over and you can (or not) lightly brown the otherside so the bread is slightly firm then use spread (or not, it does taste ok without) then add marmite (or not) then add the beans and grated cheese ontop, place back under the grill till the cheese is melted and bubbling. (because of this, and for ease of cleaning sometimes good to put silver foil over the tray)

Serve with salad or mushrooms or just simply another cheesy beano!

ok, this is more than a couple of ingredients, but its really easy to make and we always enjoy!

boil some carrots and broccoli, after 5-10 mins add a handful or 2 of pasta.

fry some onion, mushrooms and red pepper, small pieces of either chicken or bacon if you fancy. sprinkle over a stock cube.

after about 10-15 mins, add a tin of condensed chicken soup to the onions, then fill the tin about half way with milk and add that, let it simmer for a few then drain and add the veggies.

yum yum.
