Simply Electronics - A Warning !!!

Humphman Avatar
7y, 6m agoPosted 7 years, 6 months ago
I recently ordered a digital camera from the above company, as having done quite a bit of searching, they came out the cheapest. Well after waiting 3 weeks for a 2-8 day despatch, I cancelled it and was assured of a refund within 7 days, 6 weeks later I'm still fighting for it, and am sending all the details to my solicitor. Be warned, never ever use this cowboy outfit, they make all the right noises but do not deliver - literally !!
p.s. Ordered same camera on Amazon and got it next day !!!!

Simply Electronics are not a scam site.

They are just really, really bad at getting stuff to their customers.

There is a large thread over on AvForums where a member of their staff answers questions from people in a similar position.

The site I used gave them a good rating, it's just that neither camera and subsequent refund have yet to materialise

Here, I took this off a thread on AV Forums - there's a contact email for you that should help:

Dear All,

I am sorry that I have been away for last 2 weeks and hence, not able to monitor this forum;

I will like to share with you few improvements we made.

1) Our speed for refunds are improving and for any outstanding refunds, please contact [email protected]">[email protected] and this will facilate us to resolve any outstanding issues.
We do have some problems with the speed of refund previously but this has been improved tremedously. The number of cancellations we have within our delivery timeframe are very high, probably from reading this thread which have deeply aggravated the problem.
But in general, we are constantly improving from feedbacks received from this forum and has always been contactable.
Although, sometimes i feel some comments from this thread is overly harsh on us, but i believe this is also beneficial for us to know exactly what sort of issues our customers are having and hence able to work on them. The moderator has also been extremely fair to moderate this very difficult thread.
I urged anybody with outstanding issues to contact either me via pm or vanessa so we can work to clear out any outstanding issues.

2) For documents for credit check, we basically require any form of documents (we do not require details) that will assist us to ensure that we are dealing with the real card owner; a screen shot of the front of the actual credit card used will be sufficient enough. Please let us know your feedbacks in how we can improve in this area. Credit card fraud is a big problem for us. However, we will now review and revise our credit check processes via the feedbacks received from this forum and aim to implement within the next 48 hours.

3) Though we have yet to achieve 100% customer satisfaction, but in general, we are improving and have hit 97% positive feedback rates, up from 90% last year. Pls see Amazon.co.uk At a Glance: SimplyElectronics

4) Another problem which i recognise is our phone call answered rates are still around only 75% We have employed and trained 3 more customer service representatives and they will start handling phone calls from this week. I am confident this will improve the situation.

I agree that we are not as efficient as amazon, but we are and always has been listening and improving. I know this is extremely frustrating, both for yourself and us and i urge anyone with outstanding issues to contact [email protected]">[email protected] and i will work with her to ensure all cases are resolved within 24 hours of receipt of your issue.

many thanks

Unfortunately some sites are paid to give others a good review. Always best to do research within a forum such as avforums or here before making a purchase if you have any doubts about the company.

This company may fulfil 30% of it;s orders but to me keeping your cash without delivering goods in a timely manner is a scam whether it be them or Currys

I was about to pay £600 for camera lool!

i believe they are a genuine company...and do deliver. But are not without problems...taking orders when having no stock etc. plus they supply grey imports so you do not have manufacturers warranty. I researched quite a bit and almost ordered my dsc-h20 from them, but went with amazon who were £10 more.
#16
Hm, my last post was retracted. Not too sure what I said wrong, but in short I ordered a camera 8 business days ago and it arrive today within the 10 day time quoted on the site.

Its not ace, but it was cheap.

What camera was it? Did it come with a proper UK manual and warranty card?
#18
Further to my original message, I cancelled my order as they had no idea when stock would arrive, and then it took another 3 months to get them to refund the money. I will never use them again, and I urge people not to touch them !!!
#19
To me it sounds like I wa a lucky one!

No, to warranty, they are "grey" as such. Simply electronics supply a card with details of how to access your warranty terms with them, I kinda hope I don't have to use that service. Pixmania are a similar thing to these guys as well.

At the end of the day, pay cheap, get a good product, something has to give somewhere!
#20
Oh , the camera was a Canon A1100 IS, forgot to mention!
#21
I have made a transaction without doing much research
So far i have had a good experience with online transactions for years
This is the worst experience
I am still awaiting refunding after more than two weeks when I could potentially take minutes
there are negative reviews about this company all over the internet
i must blame myself for my mistake
PS; amazon still have good rating for them (surprise, surprise...) even after serious complaints

Ecky-thump!! Am waiting for a HTC phone ordered last Wednesday. Now I dont know what to do; wait a few days longer; cancel credit card? Is it likely to be grey goods and thus no guarantee? Anyone any ideas?

Most likely a grey import. This site has a habit of taking orders when they have no stock, and also they wont ship till they have enough to cover shipping costs to uk.

I tried contacting Simply Electronics this morning by phone, but its just a recorded message. There's no email address I can find for them, and with all the comments on this site it looks as though I'll have to contact my credit card company and report it. They haven't even bothered to send me an email confirming my order, and the screen on my old phone which I am using until the replacement comes has decided not to work. The cats hungry as well - and the bins havent been emptied. http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/403729/simply-electronics-a-warning/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Do a Google on them - that's what I would do.
#27
most of their items are grey imports, and half their stock isnt in stock. regardless of what it says on their site.

This company have scammed over £200 out of my husband who ordered a camera for my birthday 2 months age.The first email said they did not have the one he ordered in stock but offered an alternative, he refused, they took his money, he asked for his money back, they said it would be refunded, nothing, telephoned them x2 they said he would get his money back, nothing. Now credit card statement shows they took his money and no refund so he has contacted the credit card company to get a refund due to this fraudulent activity.
Unforunately he can't be bothered to contact watchdog and won't let me grrr! Their email address is down having maintenance (what a surprise) hence i am posting here as I can't shout at them!!!

I know there used to be a Simply operating from Walthamstow, London. Havent used them for years but were always competitive on price. Wasnt that one was it?

There is thread on avforums that a simply electronics member of staff monitors, worth posting there.

I've now raised a dispute through Barclaycard against Simplyabunchachancers. I made the order on the 27th, site said there were 9 units in stock and sent within 1-2 days, confirmation said 3-10 days (I put this down to the festive period). It hadn't been sent by the 6th so I cancelled & ordered from Camerabox the same day. Camerabox order arrives on the 11th then CC statement arrives on the 16th telling me Simplyturds took the money on day of purchase. Several e-mails later and they still have my money... I would be very aware if you are thinking of doing business with them. I won't. Their e-mail replies are just stock 'We're trying our best and it's been passed to the appropriate dept.' patronising kinda things, which just infuriate you.
Before I purchased I asked around and only one person had used them, but found no problem. The address I got was in Jersey not HK.

They are a SCAM!!!

I bought a sony camera for £650 pounds. After this, I start to get suspicious and send emails and try to call them. Took them 3 days to return my email and ask for a image of my card and a utility bill. As I rent with all include, i don't have a utility bill, so I sent the card and a bank statement from other bank (Detail, the debit card used to buy the camera, the bank statement and the delivery address are the same). Since them, they stop answer e-mail and the phone no one answer. Today finally, someone answer the phone, but again, they can't deliver the camera and therefore, they have to cancel my purchase.

They don't know when they will return my money and they can't inform anything else.

I am going to the police now and I will post information about this SCAM in all websites that I can.

Please be aware that they will not deliver the stuff you buy and god know if they will return my money!

Thanks,

Fabio

We are a bunch of customers treated badly by Simply Electronics who want to help support others who are/were having problems with this company. It is easy with a little knowledge to find lots information about them. I have discovered addresses in Scotland, Newbury, London, IOW and Hong Kong. They were Ltd but as from January 2010 are no longer a Limited company. Please help us with any information by posting on simplyelectronicsNOT on UTube or http://simplyelectronicsnot.webs.com where your help is always welcome, as we have basic skills

Im a bit confused? Ive always ordered from Simply Electronics and found them very good with price and delivery until recently. I ordered a £5k camera from them which took nearly 2 weeks to dispatch, despite the promise of a 2-5 day delivery! Then the couriers say they have been to pick it up twice but they wont release it and simply electronics are saying the couriers have it and they are not telling me the truth. Neither one will accept they have it and I have emailed them constantly, even the vanessa@ address that was on here but not getting a reply. When I call them they just say 'I can promise you maam that the item was dispatched and will be with you tomorrow'...well theyve said that for the past 5 days to me.

Has anyone got any advice on this please. I would consider this matter as being theft if they have my money but refusing to dispatch the camera, but what can you do when the company is based in Hong Kong.

I am really worried about the amount of money Ive lost and did a search on google under SIMPLY ELECTRONICS which was automatically completed with SCAM COMPANY by google. I then read that their limited UK company was dissolved in jan 2010!!!

Could anyone advise on what I can do legally here?

Most appreciated
