Simply Electronics - A Warning !!!

HumphmanHumphman

I recently ordered a digital camera from the above company, as having done quite a bit of searching, they came out the cheapest. Well after waiting 3 weeks for a 2-8 day despatch, I cancelled it and was assured of a refund within 7 days, 6 weeks later I'm still fighting for it, and am sending all the details to my solicitor. Be warned, never ever use this cowboy outfit, they make all the right noises but do not deliver - literally !!
p.s. Ordered same camera on Amazon and got it next day !!!!

I ordered two cameras from Simply Electronics they were in stock and they charged my paypal straight away . 12 days down the line I get no response and no cameras. It is time to shut this outfit down.

I ordered a lens having checked online and by telephone that it was in stock. They charged my credit card immediately then, several days later emailed to say that they had found the item was damaged and there was no more stock and not likely to be any for some time. I cancelled the order that day.

The following day the website was showing a stock of 7!

They then said they would apply to their accounts department for the money to be refunded. That was a week ago and I am still waiting. On checking my credit card account the charge had been made by Simply Electronics Limited. According to companies house this company has been dissolved.

The whole thing is a complete scam and I would strongly advise anyone considering using them to avoid them like the plague.

Why is it that Visa Mastercard PayPal etc still allow them to function? Is it that they are more interested in their commission than the protection of their consumers?

ordered a FUJI FINEPIX S1600 DIGITAL CAMERA on the 9th April 2011 as they were £25.00 cheaper than amazon WHAT DA HELL WAS I THINKING!!!!!! then after 2 weeks still no delivery then the email stating that upon sending my parcel out my camera had been damaged and had to be returned. i sent email after email, replies were very polite and seemed helpfull offering me to find a replacement and buttering me up. i have now got in touch with my credit card company and sent them all the emails i have sent and received from simplyelectronics.net and they are going to refund the money to my card and claim the money off them. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT LET THEM KEEP YOUR MONEY IF YOU HAVE BEEN A DUMMY LIKE ME AND ORDERED OFF THEM GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY A.S.A.P AND LET THEM DEAL WITH IT.....

    Some good news.
On the 18th April I contacted Vanessa Carroll by email and she came straight back to me within a couple of hours to say the money (see above) would be credited back to my card in 2 days. It was actually credited back on by them on 19 April and appeared on my card on 20 April - Thank you Vanessa.

My advice - 1. Don't use this company.
    2. - If you already have and have a problem contact Vanessa Carroll on vanessa@simplyelectronics.net

PS I have found the same lens in UK VAT paid and actually in stock for £10 difference - It says it all doesn't it?

    All the best

On April 11th, I ordered a £1200 Nikon lens, over the telephone to a UK number, was told it was in stock and would receive it in 2-7 working days. It didn't arrive, the telephone went to answer-phone with a 'technical difficulties' message for several days, so I emailed requesting they cancel the order if it wasn't delivered in 2-days.

The next day, they replied saying 'please be assured we are doing our very best to despatch all orders within the shortest period of time'. That doesn't really say anything at all! They asked me to be patient.

After another week, I e-mailed asking where my refund was and they replied saying they had no record of me cancelling my order and were still trying to get my order to me. They awaited further instructions.

I replied, asking them why they needed further instruction when the order had been cancelled and finally they 'emptied my basket', and assured me they have passed this on to an accounts dept for a refund (probably the same person on a laptop).

Having read about the repeated delays getting refunds on here and elsewhere, I contacted my bank, and once I've filled in the forms and returned them, they'll refund my £1200 and retrieve it from Simply Electronics' bank for non-delivery.

The whole experience has been a complete nightmare. I would avoid this company like the plague. They conceal the fact they operate out of Kowloon and supply electronics without European warranties.

The price of the lens has risen by £300 since I ordered it, and has always been 'in stock'.

This fool and his money were soon parted. Don't fall for this cowboy outfit with their attractive prices. It's the worst internet shopping experience I've ever had!

    UPDATE:

After cancelling my order and taking it off their system, SE contacted me to say my order would arrive the next day.

It did, in perfect condition, with European warranty.

It was between £200 and £300 cheaper than most dealers.

I now have to say they were rubbish with delivery times and frustrating to contact, but they did produce the goods.

Hi, I too have just been caught out by these dissgusting people.
I was looking around for the best deal on a Canon 550D twin lens kit.
I checked prices on line and through magazines.
I noticed that there were a lot of non uk versions for sale on ebay.
These are called Canon rebel t2i and Canon Kiss x4 in the USA and Japan.
The UK models is called Canon EOS 550D.
I decided from the beginning I definately did not want an import, even if they are cheaper.
Spending this kind of money I wanted the Canon UK Warranty for peace of mind. Plus Canon are giving £30.00 cashback at the moment too.
So, I narrowed the choice of palces to buy down to a few and called each one to ask if the model they were selling was definately a UK model. This is the most important thing to me.
Simplyelectronics were the cheapest so I called them, TWICE just to be sure, and both times they assured me that they sold the UK model with the Canon warranty and the cashback offer from Canon UK.
All the pictures on their website show the UK EOS model.
    I placed the order.
Next morning I receive an email from simplyelectronics asking for me to email them a copy of my credit card?!?!?! This seemed very odd to me as they had already taken the monry (I checked with the credit card co.)
I did some research on simplyelectronics and was absolutely horrified at the very bad reputation they have got.
Not only are they based in HONG KONG but they supple import goods, not Genuine UK Canon products as advertised, and as I was assured, TWICE.
I phoned simplyelectronics to ask about the Canon model that they planned to supply to me.
Only now, after they have got my very hard cash, did someone admit that they source their stock worldwide, not from UK!!!!!!!!!!
To say I was upset is an understatement. I had ordered on their salesteams advice, twice, that they were selling me a UK version.
I am in no way happy with a cheap import model with no warrany apart from their own, frankly laughable, 14day one.
I was assured I was buying the genuine thing!!!!
At the moment I have not faxed off my credit card, that does not seem right to me.
I do not know what to do for the best.
I want my money back so I can buy from a reputable UK based business, as I was conned into thinking they were.
Please please help. I am at a loss at what to do next?
    Kind regards

The moral of the story is to google reviews with these smaller companies.
And to whoever spent 5k on a camera without doing the above deserves to be scammed for such lunacy.

SIMPLY ELECTRONICS are currently not refunding me for an order which was cancelled 5 weeks ago. I will NEVER EVER use this website or this company again; I rung them up today and was kept on hold for 19 minutes before speaking to a customer service representative. Email contact just gives the response ,''we have escalated your refund request'' or ''we understand your frustration at not having received your refund''
I cancelled the order because the delivery time was not what was quoted and the order was actually cancelled so I did not receive the goods anyway.
[b]PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE NOT BASED IN THE UK - THEY SEEM TO THINK THEY ARE OUTSIDE THE REALMS OF DECENCY AND GOOD PRACTICE AND IT WOULD BE WORTH PAYING A BIT MORE AND GETTING FROM SOMEWHERE REPUTABLE.THIS COMPANY IS NOT REPUTABLE.

    My experience with them ...
On 9.5.2011 I've ordered a camera ... after one day I got an e-mail ... although I was sceptic I sent them copies of requested documents (for security reasons I've blankeded all the irrelevant numbers :) so they got only the information which they already have had), I got another e-mail that I should send them clear copies and that till then my order is put on hold ...

On 12.5.2011 I canceled my order, demanded reverse money transaction and open a dispute at paypal (luckily I paid them via paypal).

On 13.5.2011 I got my money back (via paypal) :)))))

    Simplyeletronics and such never again!
Stay away or you will get burned!
    allen1
ok maybe they are not a scam site. but they dont tell you that by the time you add VAT , as they are in Honk Kong, it will be more expensive than Amazon let alone cheaper places anyway. And you have to try hard to get an address from the pages. I nearly got caught but lucky I found this.
    ytg2009
truly a disgraceful outfit to deal with. Lying about what is in stock and delivery dates and then excuse after excuse not to process a credit card refund. Do not deal with them for any reason whatever!!

and they don't have Ipad 2 in stock so that they can deliver it whatever their website and customer service might say

I have read your account of dealings with Simply Electronics. I am also having problems with this crowd.
I purchased from them a Canon 18 -135mm ef lens towards the end of october 2010. It was a bit gritty feeling half way through the zoom field. At this point the optics were nice and clear. However a few weeks ago the zoom started feeling very smooth when out taking photos and video. When I proccessed the images there were dark fuzzy marks on all of them. This turned out to be machining swarf on several elements inside the lens. So I sent the lens back asking for my money back. Which I'm entitled to under guarrentee or warranty in the UK. They have refused. After first asking me what do I want to happen with the return ie. refund, repair or replace. I know now this Email to be just a deup. It is now three weeks since rerturning the lens. They say it has been sent back to Canon. I do not believe them. I think its going to be a very long time before I see any lens or refund of £250. Is there any advice anyone can give me to fast track a result out of these people.
    freeland
I bought a mobile phone from the site some time ago and it never arrived. When I called the customers helpline, they kept me waiting for ages, then were not able to provide any useful information. I haven't cancelled the order yet, because from what I heard, there is a slight possibility they will still send the stuff (though ofter poor quality and with no guarantee) but a chance to get money back from them is an absolute zero. I also had some money mysteriously disappearing from my account recently, still have no proof it was them but it is highly likely. They're nothing but fraudsters and should be investigated by the Police.
    peteroldmonts
I just wished I had dione the research first! They have just taken £1200 for an order from me and they have asked for all sorts of information to prove my identity, so much of it that I became supisious as it would have given them the opportunity to steal my identity. I refused by e mail and tried to cancel. They claim not to have recieved my e mails - how convenient. I immediately spoke to my credit card company who are placing a dispute against the transaction. I am assured that one way or another I will get my money back either from the company or the credit card company. I am seriosly considering reporting them to the police and to trading standars. I am not accusing them of a scam or fraud at this time but I will take this forward if they do not refund me very soon.
