Young? free? & Single?...me too...well the free and single part anyhow! Young?....is 36 young?

If you are single, how do you feel about this over the festive period? I know its a lot cheaper - as have no partner to buy for and also no arguments as to whose parents you are going to see! but what do you miss?

My friends have dinner parties and partners welcome! I feel like a gooseberry :?

My best male mate works away a lot and I usually drag him along to these functions, but he also has his own family to see!

It gets frustrating at times, as all friends now settled down - so they dont want to do the 'partying thing'!

So what do any singletons out there miss???

I'm single and although i have two children i feel quite lonely over xmas, being with the children and watching them enjoy what they have makes up for it, but it still can feel a lonely time, especially when all the excitement is over and they are in bed

I can remember spending a christmas alone one year. i had split from my previous partner, it was her turn to have our son on christmas day, and all my family were a bit of a distance away. It was actually quite demoralising. didnt enjoy it one bit.

I do not have children as yet...a career girl at the moment! and wish I could find someone to spend those evenings with, cuddled up to, drinking a nice wine etc etc. Just to have someone to do the little things with, thats what counts!

Family are great! I will see them on Christmas Day and then travel home afterwards! (they are not local either!)....ooooh to have to cuddle up to when home lol!

I must admit that i do not let my son go to his dads on xmas day (awaiting the bashing) I do everything for my son throughout the year and its one day i deserve unspoilt as do both my children. I have never stopped any contact with his dad, he is welcome here on any day, but that isnt good enough for him. He has two children from a previous marriage and would never allow them two to be apart over xmas, either he had both or neither, now he is with someone else he wishes to break my two up (daughter not by him) over xmas, and call me selfish but no it isnt going to happen. Every year its the same old, expects everything to change for xmas day but never for anything else, he has him once a fortnight for the weekend and wont change plans for nothing else, except of course xmas day and his bithday, whhoops sorry for the rant:oops:

This society makes it difficult to be alone at Christmas, we are bombarded with images of happy families/couples, and it can make those who are normally perfectly find on their own feel very lonely indeed. I have spent many Christmases in tears while my babies were up in bed, feeling like the loneliest person in the world.

Sassie even when my kids dad lived nearby I stopped them seeing him on Christmas day pretty early on, we all do what's best for our kids. I tried my best, invited a violent man round on Christmas day to try to keep things friendly for him, he turned up with a selection box each for them and a carry out that would have got the whole street drunk for himself, and ruined everyone's day being foul mouthed and abusive. You're right, your kids and you are family and he has removed himself from that unit, don't let anyone spoil any day that's special.

This year would be the first time im NOT alone for xmas in over 5 years!

Id have to say it didnt really bother me being alone at xmas, but im not really what most people would consider a "normal" person lol. Seriously, there have been times when ive been busy over the xmas break and ended up working on xmas day etc, so I can definately say im not "normal"!

That said, many a year ive been looking forward to the xmas break to get away from work and relax, only to be practically dragged round someone elses house with the "nobody should be alone at xmas" line.

1st xmas i wont have spent alone in 4 years, and im only 23  I did spend the previous 3 taken though :)
Had a few relationships in the last 4 years, but none have lasted to cover the festive period, so WooP! Im looking forward to this one!

Just to give a little hope to the others, not to rub it in!
I didnt think id find anyone, then when i stopped looking he popped up, and i couldnt be happier
